Tennessee rising senior Liam Stone has been officially added to this summer’s FINA World Championships diving team.
The championships will be held July 14 through 30 in Budapest, Hungary. Tennessee diving coach Dave Parrington will be accompanying the team as one of New Zealand’s diving coaches.
Stone will compete in men’s 1-meter and 3-meter as well as the men’s 3-meter synchro and mixed 3-meter synchro with LSU’s Lizzy Cui.
A native of Auckland, New Zealand, Stone has enjoyed a strong first half of 2017. He set the SEC record en route to winning the title on the 1-meter springboard and placed third on 3-meter. At the NCAA championships, he was fourth in both springboard events and was later voted the SEC Diver of the Year.
He has been competing on the international stage since the college season ended. He was second on 3-meter at the FINA Grand Prix event in Gatineau, Canada, and was fifth last week in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He and Cui picked up a bronze medal in 3-meter synchro diving in Canada.
