Lamp Leads Platform at World Trials

May 16, 2013

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Tennessee's Tori Lamp leads the women's platform competition after the opening two rounds Thursday at the U.S. World Championship Trials.

Lamp scored 691.45 over two lists of dives and will carry a 49.25-point advantage into Sunday's finals.

"It was certainly an outstanding day for Tori," Tennessee diving coach Dave Parrington said. "She had two very consistent lists and has put herself in excellent position going into the finals. we're not going to take anything for granted when we prepare for Sunday, but we're excited to be in this position."

Amy Cozad (Indianapolis, Ind.) sits in second place with 642.20, with Murphy Bromberg (Bexley, Ohio) not far behind in third at 630.95.

Lamp, a Knoxville native, is the reigning CSCAA National Diver of the Year as well as the back-to-back SEC Diver of the Year. She placed second on platform at this year's NCAA Championships.

Up to two spots are available for the World Championship team on each individual event. Scores are cumulative across the preliminaries, semifinals and finals; divers must also meet minimum score and degree of difficulty requirements. Teams for the World University Games will also be selected at the trials.

Kristian Ipsen (Clayton, Calif.), who has already secured a spot on the team with a victory on 1-meter on Wednesday, leads the men's 3-meter field with 872.25 points, followed by Sam Dorman (Tempe, Ariz.) at 817.75 and Aaron Fleshner (Spring, Texas) at 788.75.
