Rising senior Tori Lamp is still a few weeks away from taking to platform at the World Championships in Barcelona, but she has already arrived in Spain to prepare for competition.
Lamp and UT diving coach Dave Parrington traveled to the island of Mallorca earlier this week for a training camp with the U.S. team.
The squad has been practicing at the outdoor facility called the Picines Son Hugo, which was the site of 1999 World University Games. Lady Vol great Kathy Pesek dove at that meet for the United States.
Lamp qualified for the World Championships in platform -- her top event -- by winning the U.S. trials to start the summer.
During her junior year at UT, Lamp was named the CSCAA National Diver of the Year after making the finals at the NCAA Championships in all three diving events. She was also voted the SEC Diver of the Year for a second year running after defending her title and breaking her own conference record on the platform.
Lamp is the third Lady Vol diver to make the World Championships in program history. Pesek and Tracy Bonner and won the silver in 3-meter synchronized diving in 1998.
