BARCELONA, Spain -- Tennessee rising senior Tori Lamp begins diving competition on the 10-meter platform Wednesday at the FINA World Championships.
With Barcelona's nearby skyline in the background, Lamp will take part in the biggest event of her career at one of the world's most famous diving venues: the Piscina Municipal de Montjuic, site of the 1992 Olympic Games. Because of the time zone difference, the preliminary competition will begin at 4 a.m. Eastern.
Lamp and Tennessee diving coach Dave Parrington have been with USA Diving in Spain the last two weeks for team training. The U.S. squad spent time earlier this month working at the outdoor diving venue in Mallorca, an island off the coast of Spain.
"Finally after much preparation and watching her USA teammates compete over the last few days, Tori will dive against the worlds top divers of which is too is one," Parrington said. "She is pumped and biting at the bit to show her stuff, and I am excited to see her compete at this level.
"The experience has been incredible so far and this competition three years out from Rio will go a long way in the continued development of her diving career, as she keeps moving along."
Lamp qualified for the World Championships by winning the platform competition at the U.S. Trials earlier this summer in Florida.
