DAY SIX

Former Tennessee swimmer Barry Murphy (2006-09) claimed eighth place in the 50-meter breaststroke Saturday at the European Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Murphy, a Dublin, Ireland, native, made the finals and earned his eighth-place finish off a 27.99-second time.

Earlier in Saturday's lineup, Murphy placed 29th in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 23.06 seconds. Former Vol and 2008 Olympian Jonas Persson placed 33rd in the same event with a 23.14-second mark.

Incoming Tennessee freshman Norbert Kovacs was also in action on day six of the championships. Kovacs, a Budapest native, swam on Hungary's 800-meter freestyle relay that finished 10th with a time of seven minutes 27.06 seconds.

DAY FIVE

Former Tennessee swimmer Barry Murphy (2006-09) qualified Friday for the finals of the 50-meter breaststroke at the European Swimming Championships in Budapest Hungary.

The championship heat will take place Saturday afternoon.

The Dublin, Ireland, native made the finals with a sixth-place finish in the semifinals with a 27.60-second time.

To make the semifinals Murphy finished 14th with a time of 28.09 seconds.

Also in action Friday was incoming Vols freshman Norbert Kovacs. The Budapest-native finished 42nd in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 55.12 seconds.

DAY FOUR

Former Tennessee swimmer and 2008 Olympian Jonas Persson (2008-09) was one of two ex-Vols in action Thursday at the European Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Persson made it to the semifinals of the 100-meter freestyle placing 13th behind a time of 49.61 seconds.

 

 

Former Vol and 19-time All-America Barry Murphy (2006-09) finished in 47th with a time of 51.23 seconds.

DAY THREE

Incoming Tennessee freshman Norbert Kovacs swam fast again Wednesday, the third day of the European Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Kovacs, swimming in front of a hometown crowd, finished 18th in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of two minutes 0.8 seconds.

Former Vol and two-time Olympian Andrew Bree also finished 18th in the 200-meter breaststroke at two minutes 15.02 seconds.

DAY TWO
Tuesday Aug. 10, 2010

Only one Vol was in action Tuesday, the second day of the European Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Incoming Tennessee freshman Norbert Kovacs finished 31st in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of one minute 51.83 seconds. Kovacs arrived on The Hill earlier this year and competed for the Big Orange and the 2010 SEC Championships.

DAY ONE
Monday Aug. 9, 2010

One new and three former Vols saw action as the European Swimming Championships began Monday in Budapest, Hungary.

Representing Sweden, former Vol All-America Jonas Persson (2008-09) anchored his team to a bronze medal in the 400-meter freestyle relay, finishing in three minutes 15.07 seconds.

Incoming Tennessee freshman Norbert Kovacs, swimming in front of a hometown crowd, placed 26th in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of three minutes 58.04 seconds. Kovacs arrived on The Hill earlier this year and competed for the Big Orange and the 2010 SEC Championships.

Former Vol Barry Murphy (2006-09) finished 35th in the 100 breaststroke with a one-minute 2.43-second mark. Fellow Irish teammate and two-time Olympian Andrew Bree (2001-04) was close behind in 43rd place with a time of one minute 3.22 seconds.
