UT Announces 2013 Diving Camp

Dec. 31, 2012

The Tennessee diving program has released dates and details for the 2013 diving camps.

Three six-day sessions during June will be offered at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center, site of the 2012 USA Diving Senior Winter National Championships and the 2008 USA Diving Olympic team selection camp.

The camps will be directed by four coaches with Tennessee ties including Vols' diving coach Dave Parrington, now in his 23rd season in Knoxville. He has produced six NCAA champions and 33 SEC champions during his time at Tennessee.

Tennessee volunteer diving assistant coach Brian Pritt, South Dakota State diving coach Sean Letsinger and Carnegie Mellon diving coach Alicia Gorman are also part of the camp staff. All three are former Tennessee lettermen.

CAMP DATES
Session 1: June 9-14
Session 2: June 16-21
Session 3: June 23-28

For every session of camp, there is an overnight ($600) and commuter ($475) option. There will be a $150 non-refundable charge upon registration.

The camp includes two diving sessions every day as well as instruction on the importance of stretching routines, the fundamentals of the hurdle and back presses, the techniques used for ripping, twisting and somersaulting, the significance of doing dry-board/belt work in addition to trampoline skills/drills and finally the learning which accompanies video analysis. Tennessee experts will also give lectures on the topics of nutrition and recovery and mental training.

For divers who are in training for regional, zone and national level competitions we will ensure their training program is specifically designed to prepare them for those events.

ABOUT ALLAN JONES INTERCOLLEGIATE AQUATIC CENTER
Completed in 2008, the Allan Jones Aquatic Center has consistently been a top stage for national swimming and diving competition. The new facility has a bubbler system under the 3-meter springboard and the 5-, 7- and 10-meter platforms, a DVDR system for visual aid and an on-site weight room. There are also two dry boards with overhead harnesses for spotting and still progression, as well as three trampolines.

Between the new aquatic center and the neighboring Student Aquatic Center, the former competitive home of the Vols, the team has access to 21 springboards across three pools and complete indoor and outdoor platform facilities.
