Kredich Named SwimSwam Coach of the Year

Dec. 31, 2013

Head swimming and diving coach Matt Kredich was named the 2013 college coach of the year in SwimSwam's annual end-year Swammy Awards.

In 2012-13, Kredich wrapped up his first season as the head coach of the combined men's and women's program after having spent the previous seven seasons as the women's coach. The women's squad enjoyed its most successful season in 2013, finishing third at the NCAA Championships. The men improved to finish 16th at NCAAs, six places higher than 2012.

The women's team won its first three relays in program history -- the 200-yard freestyle relay, the 200 medley relay and the 400 medley relay. Lindsay Gendron made the A finals in all three of her individual events, and Tori Lamp and Jodie McGroarty scored major points in diving. Lamp was named the CSCAA Diver of the Year, and Dave Parrington earned CSCAA Women's Diving Coach of the Year.

At NCAAs, the Tennessee women earned 33 All-America honors, 26 of them first team. The men took home 19 All-America honors. Both UT squads finished fourth at the SEC Championships.

The SwimSwam honor caps an award-winning season for Kredich. He was received the 2013 National Collegiate and Scholastic Swimming Trophy. He served as head coach of the American women's team at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia, during the summer.

SwimSwam, one of the leading online swimming media outlets, has also recently released its power rankings through the fall season. The women were seventh and the men were 15th.
