Christie recorded top-three finishes in every meet but one indoors…She opened the campaign with victories at the Tennessee All-Comers (11-7.75/3.55m) and New Year's Invitational (12-5.50/3.80m)…Also logged second place at the SEC Quad at 12-0.50/3.67m and capped the indoor slate with a seventh-place and season-best clearance of 12-6.25/3.82m at the SEC Championships…That mark met the provisional standard but was not strong enough to secure a trip to nationals…Outdoors, Christie started slow but had a strong finish…She tied for ninth at her first-ever Mt. SAC Relays by sailing over the bar at 12-6/3.81m and joining the NCAA provisional list…In a bit of a lark, she high jumped 5-1/1.55m to take fifth at the Knoxville Invitational…Managed a height of 12-5.50/3.80m at SECs to place fourth…With the pressure on her to try to raise her qualifying status for nationals, Christie posted her collegiate best and a UT-record vault of 12-9.50/3.90m in a second-place showing at the Georgia Tech Invitational…She just missed at 13-3.50/4.05m in Atlanta and was unable to secure a slot at NCAAs…She did, however, make the Lady Vol Academic Honor Roll for the first time…Was honored as edsouth/Lady Vol Scholar Athlete of the Month in December…
Christie enrolled in school in January and hit the ground running…Opened her collegiate career with a third-place finish of 11-5.75/3.50m at the SEC Quad…After missing her opening height at three consecutive meets, Christie made the adjustments necessary to break the school record and finish second at the SEC Championships with a clearance of 12-8/3.86m…Qualified for NCAAs with that height but could manage only 12-3.50/3.86m at the national meet in Fayetteville, Ark., to place 12th…Outdoors, Christie suffered a bit of a slump to begin the schedule…After no-heighting at two meets, she bounced back strong at the Sea Ray Relays with an 11-9.75/3.60m trip over the bar to take seventh…She improved even more the next two meets, sailing over 12-6/3.81m and 12-8.25/3.87m to place second and first, respectively, at the Knoxville Invitational and the SEC Championships…Her clearance at the league meet set the school record and tied the conference mark…In her final three meets of the season, Christie was unable to improve her mark, so she did not earn a bid to the NCAA Outdoor Championships despite the record-setting clearance…
Christie participated in club track and field and softball during her high school days, serving as a captain of the track team for three seasons…Posted a personal-best clearance of 13-1/3.99m in April 1998 at the Adelaide Interclub Meet…Also had prep PRs of 126-1/38.45m in the javelin and 5-5.75/1.67m in the high jump…Traveled to the World Junior Championships in Annecy, France, in 1998, finishing 12th…Has also competed internationally in Belgium, England, France and New Zealand…
