Brown Throws New Personal Best

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Friday the Tennessee track and field team competed in the USTFCCA Meet of the Week, the Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational. The Big Orange opened the weekend with an event win and six personal bests.

Cameron Brown won the men's weight throw third time this season and second consecutive week of achieving a new personal best. His winning mark was 67 feet - 8.25 inches (20.63m) at UK's Nutter Fieldhouse. Tavis Bailey placed sixth, Deon McAdoo 10th with a personal best (56-1/17.09m), and Carson Frost was 13th.

Freshman Jerimy Strainge highlighted the Vols' running events with a personal best of 21.70 in the 200m. Reggie Juin followed in 16th, while the Tennessee DMR unit finished sixth on the evening.

Lady Vol field bright spot by personal bests by Kasha McDougald and Brielyn Rogers and Cassie Wertman's debut in the weight throw. Long jump personal bests were McDougald 18-3.25/5.57m and Brielyn Rogers 17-6/5.33m. Cassie Wertman debut mark in weight throw was 54-4.75/16.58m.

Erin Champion placed seventh and Linda Hadfield 11th in women's pole vault. In the weight throw, Aslynn Halvorson was 11th and ReJean Rouse 17th. Allison Outerbridge earned 18th in the women's long jump.

Lady Vols Felecia Majors and Felicia Brown finished third and fourth respectively in the 200m race. In an ironic twist, Majors and Brown both finished with the time of 24.336 seconds. Emily Yarnell placed 13th with 24.84. Tennessee's DMR team placed sixth (11:43.85) to close the evening.

Teams return to action tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. from Nutter Fieldhouse in Lexington, Ky.
