COLLEGE STATION, Tx. - Tennessee opened their weekend at the Aggie Invitational by competing in four events and earning six top eight finishes on Friday evening.
In women's competition, the Lady Vols were represented in the distance medley relay by two units. Tennessee A (Alexis Panisse, Felicia Brown, Kianna Ruff, and Chelsea Blaase) won the event with a season best time of 11:27.73. The Lady Vols second unit of Kelsey Kane, Julia Petree, Brittney Jackson, and Amirah Johnson placed in third (11:39.04). Tonight's performances in the DMR are the best for the team this season. Through three events, the Lady Vols are fifth overall in women's competition.
The men's night was highlighted by a four top-ten performances by the Vols. J.R. Creekmore debuted in the 5000m finishing fifth in 14:51.03, while teammate Stephen Derlath placed eighth (15:02.15). Tennessee's A DMR team of Nick Kaiser, Jerimy Strainge, Terrance Livingston, and Austin Whitelaw posted a 10:00.33, second highest this year to finish 4th. Tennessee's B DMR followed close behind in fifth with a time of 10:01.34, third highest this season. The fifth place unit consisted of Daniel Tobin, Antonio Carter, Jordan Chaney, and Kyle Walter. The Vols are tied with Texas A&M for fourth in men's competition.
The Big Orange look to build upon tonight's performances, as competition resumes tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 EST from Gilliam Indoor Stadium here in College Station.
