TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Tennessee closed the opening weekend of the 2014 outdoor track and field season Saturday at the John Mitchell Alabama Relays.

Junior Tavis Bailey became a part of Tennessee track and field history when he broke a 22-year old school record in the discus. On his sixth and final throw Bailey went over the 60-meter mark for the second time on the day with a landing of 61.72 meters (202 feet, 6 inches). Bailey's mark is currently second on the NCAA list.

"We came in to get the outdoor season going and had some good performances," Tennessee director of track and field/cross country J.J. Clark said. "Tavis coming in and setting a school record was great. We had some good performances across the board and PRs in various areas. We hope to keep the ball rolling as we head into Raleigh next week."

The Lady Vols were led by senior Aslynn Halvorson. Halvorson grabbed third in the women's discus with a mark of 48.06 meters (157-8). Sophomore Emily Yarnell took fourth in women's 100 meter invitational in 11.61. The pole vault duo of Erin Champion and Linda Hadfield took third and fifth respectively to open their outdoor season.

Terrance Livingston started his final season as a Vol with a third-place finish in the men's 400 meter invitational section at 47.13. Livingston led off on the men's 4x400 meter relay that took fourth in 3:11.82. The men's 4x100 meter relay was also fourth with an opening 40.79 clocking.

Jeremy Dickie and Kyle Walter went 1-2 in the third section of the 800 meter run with 1:53.83 and 1:54.25 marks.

The Big Orange will travel to Raleigh, N.C., next weekend for the Raleigh Relays on March 28 and 29.
