LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Tennessee throwers garnered two victories and a pair of top five finishes at the Cal State LA Twilight Open on Thursday.
The lone Vol, Matthew Hoty, scored a win in the men's shot put by throwing a distance of 58 feet 9.5 inches (17.92 meters). This is his first win of the season to accompany two top ten finishes in the event at the Alabama and Tennessee Relays.
Katherine Dresch, Aslynn Halvorson, and Cassie Wertman represented the Lady Vols in field competition. Dresch threw a distance of 137-3 (41.84m) to earn fourth in the women's javelin. This is her fourth top-ten performance in the event this season. The duo of Wertman and Halvorson placed first and third respectively in the women's shot put. Halvorson's throw of 48-11.5 (14.92m) and Wertman's 53-3 (16.23m) both rank in the top five marks of the season for Tennessee in the event.
The Tennessee runners, jumpers, and vaulters will be in action tomorrow at the LSU Alumni Gold meet beginning at 10 a.m. in Baton Rouge.
