Tennessee Accumulates Top-Tens at LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Tennessee closed out the weekend at the Mt. Sac Relays in California and LSU Alumni Gold meet in Baton Rouge on Saturday evening. This was the second split weekend of competition for the Big Orange.

At LSU, Alexis Panisse scored a new best of 2 minutes 6.44 seconds to earn second in the 800m. Julia Petree set a new personal best performance in the B-Section of the 800m finishing sixth in 2:12.50. Patavia Lowery shaved nearly three seconds off her 1500m best to place sixth in 4:43.44. Emily Yarnell rounds out the personal bests this weekend with her 200m time of 23.73 to finish ninth in the event. Felicia Brown continued her strong showings on the track earning third in the 400m and 10th in the 200m. Reigning SEC Freshman of the Week Felecia Majors finished seventh in the 200m, along with a fourth place performance in the long jump invitational. Brown, Majors, Yarnell and Kasha McDougald joined up to win fourth in the 4x100m relay in 45.26 seconds.

Linda Hadfield placed highest of Tennessee's field competitors earning second in the pole vault clearing 13 feet 0.25 inches (3.97m). Teammate Erin Champion added a fifth place mark in the event for UT. Kasha McDougald was tenth in women's long jump with a distance of 18-5.25 (5.62m). Brielyn Rogers and Allison Outerbridge supplied top tens in the triple jump and triple jump invitational with fourth and seventh place performances respectively.

Reggie Juin gave the Vols two top-25 placements in the B-sections of the men's 100m and 200m dashes. In the finals of the 200m, Jarael Nelvis attained 12th with a time of 21.21. Antonio Carter had the highest finish of all Vol runners scoring third in the 800m B-section, while Michael Williams drew fifth in the B-section of the 400m hurdles.

Carson Frost represented the Big Orange in men's hammer acquiring a top-15 performance. Michael Maira, ninth in the pole vault, and Lucas Hadden, sixth in javelin, secured UT's top ten field performances at the LSU Meet. Tennessee leaves Baton Rouge with 18 more top ten placements to their credit as the season winds on.

In California at the Mt. SAC Relays, Tennessee field athletes added three more top tens to today's summation of results. Cassie Wertman earned eighth in the elite division women's shot put invitational with a throw of 50-5.25 (15.37m). Kyle Quinn threw over 217 feet to secured ninth in the elite division of the javelin throw. In the elite shot put invitational, Matthew Hoty garnered seventh followed by Tavis Bailey in 11th by throwing within six inches of each other. Bailey mark in the event was 61-2.25 (18.65m) and Hoty's high mark was 61-8.25 (18.80m).

Tennessee comes back to Knoxville in preparation for the 120th running of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia next weekend. The teams go on to close out the regular season at home with the Tennessee Challenge on May 3 at Tom Black Track.
