Hadfield Completes Vault Sweep For UT

April 20, 2013

RESULTS (Vandy) | RESULTS (Mt. SAC)

NASHVILLE - Following the Vols' 1-2-3 finish in the pole vault competition on Friday, junior Linda Hadfield completed the sweep for the Tennessee track & field team on Saturday, winning the women's vault event to conclude the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville.

Hadfield, the school's freshman record holder in the event, did not hit a personal best but did enough to win the competition. The Yorkville, N.Y., native finished cleared 12-feet, 4-inches (3.76m) to pick up the win. She was the only competitor to eclipse the 12-foot mark.

The Big Orange combined for seven top-five finishes on Saturday at Vanderbilt Track and finished the meet with eight personal records.

Senior sprinter Bianca Blair carded a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (13.68), while freshman Lady Vol Felicia Brown followed her first-place in the 200m on Friday with a third-place mark in the 100m dash. Brown crossed the line in a wind-aided 11.79 seconds.

In the field, Lady Vols Katelyn Williams and ReJean Rouse recorded lifetime bests in the discus and hammer throw, respectively. Williams threw the disc 138-5 (42.20m), while Rouse - who was competing unattached - hit 151-11 in the hammer.

For the Vols, sophomore Nick Kaiser placed second in the 800m in a time of 1:51.72, while Jeremy Dickie recorded a PR in the event (1:57.05). Redshirt freshman Carson Frost added a career best in the hammer throw with a toss of 153-3 (46.72m).

Completing their four-meet, three-day trip in California, throwers Matthew Hoty and Cassie Wertman competed this morning in the shot put at the 55th annual Mt. SAC Relays. Hoty placed sixth (60-4/18.39m), while Wertman finished eighth (52-7.5/16.04m).

Sophomore Tavis Bailey is currently competing in the discus competition at the Long Beach State Beach Invitational, and Lady Vols Jessie Harrison and Aslynn Halvorson are throwing the discus at the same meet in Norwalk, Calif.

The Orange and White is back in action next week at the 119th Penn Relays at historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa., from April 25-27. The 14th edition of the USA vs. The World competition will be broadcast live on NBC on Saturday, April 27 from 1-3 p.m. ET. An additional two hours of coverage will be shown on the same day on Universal Sports from 3-5 p.m. ET.
