Panisse, Majors Advance to National Meet

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Sophomore Alexis Panisse and freshman Felecia Majors both ran career-best times Friday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Regional to advance to the national meet.

Panisse ran a career best in the 800-meter run Thursday in the preliminaries and did so again Friday. She finished second overall -- and second in the first heat -- in a time of 2 minutes, 3.61 seconds, to move on to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Majors booked her ticket as well, doing so in the 400.

Majors crossed the finish line in 52.67 seconds, finishing third in the second heat to automatically qualify for her first NCAA outdoor championship. The time was eighth overall.

Sophomore Emily Yarnell was one spot shy of qualifying for NCAAs in the 100-meter dash. She finished 13th in the quarterfinals in 11.51 seconds.

Yarnell, Majors and sophomore Felicia Brown with both be back in action Saturday in the 200 meters quarterfinals. Brown won the first heat of the preliminaries in 23.32, the fourth-best time overall. Yarnell took seventh overall and third in first heat to advance with a time of 23.38.

Majors grabbed the 24th and final quarterfinal qualifying spot with a time of 23.80.

Sophomore Cameron Brown found himself a few spots out of the Oregon trip as well, but he did score a career best. Brown took 18th in the hammer throw with a best distance of 203 feet, 7 inches (62.05m).

Senior Aslynn Halvorson also scored a career best from the ring. She was 17th overall in the discus with a best throw of 169-9 (51.75m). Only the top 12 from each event advanced to the final site.

In the women's pole vault, Erin Champion was 22nd (13-3.5/4.05m).
