KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Three days before the meet, Tennessee sophomore distance runner Chelsea Blaase was added to the field NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Blaase is now slated to run the 5,000 meters in Albuquerque, N.M, after another competitor withdrew.
She won the silver medal in the event two weeks ago at the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships, earning her All-SEC honors. Her best time in the 5,000 was 16 minutes, 3.12 seconds at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash.
Blaase has put together a strong second season at Tennessee. The native of St. Joseph, Ill., placed top 10 in both the SEC Championships and NCAA South Regional during the fall cross country season.
Blaase joins four other Tennessee competitors in the NCAA field, all of whom are freshmen or sophomores. Freshman Felecia Majors (200m, 400m) and sophomores Felicia Brown (200m) and Alexis Panisse (800m) with run with Blaase in the women's competition in New Mexico. Sophomore Cameron Brown is the Vols' representative in the weight throw on the men's side.
The NCAA Championships will be held Friday and Saturday.
