Former Tennessee track and cross country athlete Paul Butterfield was shot and killed while serving as a Michigan State Trooper on Monday night.
Butterfield was a member of the track team from 1990-92 and ran cross country from 1989-92. He was a member of the Vols' 1991 NCAA championship team. After finishing his time at Tennessee, he joined the U.S. Army and later became a state trooper in his home state of Michigan.
A celebration of life for Butterfield will be held at 1 p.m. Eastern on Saturday at the Manistee High School Gymnasium (525 12th. Street, Manistee, Mich.). The family will receive friends on Saturday morning, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m. at the school gymnasium.
A candlelight service is schedule for Saturday from 7 to 7:30 p.m. at Waterfront Park in Lundington, Mich.
The family has established memorials in Butterfield's name for The Manistee County Humane Society of Manistee and the Michigan State Police Memorial Fund.
