In our last event: The UT Men finished third overall at the Mountain Dew Invitational September 14. Tennessee's top five scorers all finished in the top 25 for the second consecutive race. Director of track and field/cross country J.J. Clark stated, "I thought that the men competed well. We know that we have a ways to go, but we're making positive progress as a group."
Vol Spotlight: In this edition, the Vol Spotlight is on Stephen Derlath. The senior from Charlotte has managed to secure Top 10 finishes in both events Tennessee has competed in this season, setting a new personal best time of 24:47.45 in the 8k during the last race. Vol fans keep your eye on Stephen to watch his progression throughout the season.
About this event: 112 teams from 20 different stated and Canada, 19 nationally ranked, will take to the 8k course at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park in this year's Greater Louisville Classic. The 8k course is described as having three hills with overall flat to slightly rolling terrain. This site has played host to various events such as: NCAA and NAIA Cross Country Championships, as well as, various conference and regional competitions as well. In the 12 annual running of the event, this race is expected to a clash of the best runners from around the southeastern United States. The Volunteers will participate in the men's Gold Race, which will begin at 9:30 a.m.

In our last event: Tennessee women's cross country team pulled together in effort to tie for first in the Mountain Dew Invitational. Alexis Panisse led the team with a fifth place finish as five Lady Vols placed in the top 30. "On the women's side, it was obviously a better group run than Belmont. That's the type of progress we have to make if we're going to have an impact on our league. (Alexis) Panisse, Emily (Williams), Kelsey (Kane), Patavia (Lowery) and Chelsea (Blaase) all ran very solid," said Tennessee director of track and field/cross country J.J. Clark.
Lady Vol Spotlight: Sophomore Alexis Panisse takes the spotlight for the Lady Volunteers this preview. Rebounding from a 28th place finish in the season opener to taking 5th in the last race, Panisse has proven what extra determination and desire can cause. As competition begins to stiffen, look for her to answer the call as a leader for the Lady Vols.
About this event: This will be the 12th annual running of the Greater Louisville Classic, which is expected to be the second largest collegiate meet in the United States for 2013. The location of the event, E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park has been the site of the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships, five NAIA National Cross Country Championships, the 2007 and 2011 BIG EAST Conference Championships, the 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011 NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships. Participants will run the 5k course consisting of two hills with overall flat to slightly rolling terrain. The women's field includes 21 nationally ranked teams from their respective divisions (NAIA and all three NCAA divisions). The Lady Vols will be competing in the Women's Gold Race scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m.
