Graduated from Goodpasture Christian School in Madison, Tenn., where he was coached by Richie Estep...Never lost a game in high school, setting a school record for wins with a 26-0 record...Fashioned a 1.13 career ERA and logged 257 strikeouts through 186.1 total innings pitched...Was named the 2008 TBCA Class AA Player of the Year and team MVP after leading the Cougars to a 38-4 record and a second consecutive state championship...Suffered a fractured right thumb in the 2008 state tournament and sat out the semifinal game before returning to pitch a six-inning shutout in the championship game just two days after the injury occurred...Finished his senior season with a 12-0 record, a 0.62 ERA and 105 strikeouts while also batting .375 with five home runs and 47 RBIs...Also helped lead GHS to a state title as a junior in 2007 and was named the TBCA Class AA Player of the Year as well as team MVP...Went 11-0 as a junior with a 1.04 ERA and 107 strikeouts while also batting .408 with 16 doubles, four home runs and 39 RBIs...Threw a pair of no-hitters in 2007, with one coming in the district title game...Earned back-to-back TSWA Class AA All-State honors in 2007 and 2008...Also garnered All-State, All-Region and All-District honors in 2007...Went 3-0 as a sophomore in 2006 and set a school record with 17 strikeouts in one game...Was a four-year officer with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and also was on the honor roll and active in student council.
