Clifft was a member of the Walters State Community College (Morristown, Tenn.) squad that won the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association (TJCCAA) regular-season title, the Region VII championship, the East Central District crown and made an appearance at the 2008 Junior College World Series...Posted a 4-0 pitching record with a 5.75 ERA as a freshman.
Graduated from Huntingdon High School in Huntingdon, Tenn., where he was coached by Alan Eubanks...Lettered in four sports in high school for the Mustangs including baseball (four years), football, basketball and golf (one each)...Helped Huntingdon to the Region 7 and District 13-A baseball titles in 2007 with a 36-6 overall record, while being chosen First-Team All-State by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA), the District 13-A Most Valuable Player and the Huntingdon H.S. Team Co-MVP...The right-handed pitcher/first baseman hit .333 during his senior campaign in '07 with three home runs and 36 RBIs while also posting a sterling 10-1 pitching record with a miniscule 1.34 ERA and 91 strikeouts...Also tallied a pair of no-hitters during his scholastic pitching career...Chose Tennessee from a group of schools that consisted of Lee, Cumberland and Lenoir-Rhyne...graduated with honors from Huntingdon H.S. in 2007.
