April 18, 2003
Lexington, Ky. - Scott Wade hurled a five-hit shutout as the Kentucky Wildcats plated an unearned run in the sixth for a 1-0 victory over the Tennessee Volunteers at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
The 1-0 loss for Tennessee (22-15, 7-9 SEC) was the first since the Miami Hurricanes did it Feb. 6, 1994 in Coral Gables, Miami.
Kentucky (15-21, 3-12 SEC) loaded the bases in the sixth on two Vol errors and walk, but plated the lone run on a sacrifice fly by Russ Rutherford.
Wade (2-4) struck out six in his second complete game of the season as the Vols mounted their only threat in the fourth, leaving runners stranded at second and third.
Ben Riley (3-3) also went the distance for the Vols as he turned his first career complete game. He did Wade one better by allowing just four hits, but he also walked four with six strikeouts.
Game two of the series is Saturday at 7 p.m.
