The Southeastern Conference released its 2009 Preseason Baseball Coaches' Poll Monday, and Tennessee was picked to finish fifth in the SEC Eastern Division. The league's skippers selected LSU to win the regular-season Western Division title and overall conference crown, while Georgia was tabbed as the top club in the Eastern Division.
Tennessee travels to LSU April 17-19, while Georgia comes to Knoxville March 27-29.
Points for the preseason coaches' poll were compiled on a 6-5-4-3-2-1 basis for each division, and coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team. Each coach also voted for one team as an overall conference champion. LSU received 10 of the 12 championship votes in the poll. Ole Miss and Georgia each received one vote.
Tennessee opens the season with a three-game home series against Oregon State Feb. 20-22.
The 2009 conference schedule is set to begin the weekend of March 13-15, with the Vols hosting Auburn. The 2009 SEC Tournament will be held May 20-24 at Regions Park in Hoover, Ala.
