KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Junior Zack Godley's stellar performance against No. 2 Kentucky last Friday continues to garner him national accolades as he has been named the top honoree in CollegeBaseball360.com's Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll.
Tabbed the SEC Pitcher of the Week on Monday, Godley fired eight strong innings last Friday to lead Tennessee to a 4-1 victory over second-ranked UK, snapping the Wildcats' 22-game winning streak and handing them their first loss of the season.
In the win over Kentucky, Godley held the top-hitting team in the SEC to just one run on three hits and struck out four over a career-high tying 8.0 innings. After yielding a first-inning run, he retired 21 of the final 25 batters that he faced and didn't allow anyone past first base over the next seven frames.
The Bamberg, S.C., native gave up a double to start the contest but that was the only extra-base hit he allowed to UK, which entered the contest leading the SEC in batting average, on-base percentage hits, doubles, and RBIs and was second in slugging percentage and home runs.
Godley is now 4-1 on the year with a 2.92 ERA in a team-leading 37.0 innings, spanning six starts. He has struck out 30 and walked just six while holding opposing hitters to a .221 batting average.
The Vols close out a mid-week set against Mississippi Valley State at 7 p.m. on Wednesday before hosting Alabama for a three-game series this weekend.
