Tennessee Weekly Notes

Tennessee's struggles continued this week as it dropped a Tuesday tilt at home against Austin Peay before suffering a series sweep at Auburn to fall to 22-22 overall and 7-14 in SEC play.

A pair of freshmen carried the load for the Vols in second baseman Will Maddox and relief pitcher Conner Stevens. At the plate, Maddox led the squad by hitting .333 (5-for-15) with three of the team's four extra-base hits in their four games. He also knocked in three runs, scored twice and stole a base.

On the mound, Stevens continued his recent string of strong outings, yielding just one run in 6.1 innings spanning three appearances. Over his last five turns out of the bullpen dating back to March 28, the 6-2 righthander has allowed just that one earned run and has struck out six in 11.0 total innings of work to lower his ERA to 2.48 on the season.

Tennessee will look to get back into the win column this weekend when it hosts a three-game set against in-state rival Vanderbilt, May 4-6, at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville.
