Pros Update (6/26): Gomes Huge Week

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Vols have twenty-three former players playing professional baseball at every level. One former Vol, Yan Gomes, had a particularly impressive week for the Cleveland Indians.



R.A. Dickey - SP, Toronto Blue Jays

    R.A. Dickey fell to 6-6 with a 4.04 ERA after a 4-3 loss to the Reds Sunday afternoon. Dickey received a loss after throwing 7.2 innings allowing three earned runs on nine hits while striking out seven. He leads the Blue Jays with 79 strikeouts on the season.

    Yan Gomes - C, Cleveland Indians

    Yan Gomes appeared in six games this week (June 19-15) for the Cleveland Indians. Gomes had an impressive week in which he saw his batting average rise 16 points. He went 10-for-24 with a homer and four RBIs. Gomes extended his hitting streak to seven games. During the streak, he is hitting .407 with one double, a homer and four RBIs.

    Chase Headley - 3B, San Diego Padres

    Chase Headley played in three games this week (June 19-25) for the San Diego Padres. Headley had a rough week at the plate. He went 1-for-10 with one run scored . Headley saw his batting average fall five points over the course of a tough few games.

    Luke Hochevar - SP, Kansas City Royals

    Luke Hochevar underwent Tommy John surgery on March 18, 2014. He will miss the entire 2014 season and is expected to return for the 2015 season.

    J.P. Arencibia played in six games this week (June 19-25) for the Round Rock Express. He went 6-for-25 with three home runs, five runs scored and five RBIs. Arencibia ended the week on a great note, going 3-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored and two RBIs (June 24).

    Julio Borbon - OF, Norfolk Tides (AAA - Baltimore Orioles)

    Season: .277, 71 G, 41 R, 70 H, 5 2B, 4 3B, 4 HR, 27 RBIs
    After a big week last week, Julio Borbon went 6-for-23 with one double, two stolen bases, two runs scored and one RBI through six games this week (June 19-26) for the Norfolk Tides. Borbon's week included a 2-for-6 with one run scored and two stolen bases effort (June 22). He is hitting an impressive .333 during the month of June.

    Kentrail Davis - OF, Huntsville Stars (AA - Milwaukee Brewers)

    Season: .259, 61 G, 32 R, 57 H, 13 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 23 RBIs
    Kentrail Davis saw his batting average fall three points through seven games this week (June 19-25). He went 7-for-26 with two doubles, two stolen bases, seven runs scored and one RBI for the Huntsville Stars. Davis is currently riding a 3-game hitting streak (June 23-25) in which he is 4-for-11 (.364) with one double, one RBI and four runs scored.

    Matt Duffy - 3B, Oklahoma City RedHawks (AAA - Houston Astros)

    Season (AAA): .229, 25 G, 11 R, 19 H, 4 2B, 1 3B, 7 HR, 16 RBIs
    Season (AA): .302, 49 G, 23 R, 61 H, 11 2b, 1 3B, 6 HR, 35 RBI
    Matt Duffy hit another long ball for the Oklahoma City RedHawks this past week (June 19-25). Through five games, he went 3-for-17 with one double, one home run, two runs scored and three RBIs.

    Blake Forsythe - C, Midland RockHounds (AA - Oakland Athletics)

    Season: .196, 29 G, 13 R, 19 H, 4 2B, 3 HR, 9 RBIs
    Blake Forsythe went 2-for-7 with a double through two games this week (June 19-25) for the Midland RockHounds. Forsythe is currently riding a 5-game hitting streak (June 13-22) in which he is 7-for-19 (.368) with one double and one RBI.

    Zack Godley - RP, Daytona Cubs (A-Advanced - Chicago Cubs)

    Season: 2-1, 5.79 ERA, 13 G, 18.2 IP, 22 H, 17 R, 12 ER, 11 BB, 23 K
    Zack Godley threw 2.0 innings for the Daytona Cubs this week (June 19-25). He allowed two runs, two hits, walked two and struck out two. Godley is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA through his last 10 appearances.

    Steven Gruver - RP, Fort Myers Miracle (A-Advanced - Minnesota Twins)

    Season: 1-5, 3.09 ERA, 25 G, 43.2 IP, 42 H, 18 R, 15 ER, 22 BB, 33 K
    Steven Gruver threw 5.1 innings through three appearances this week (June 19-25) for the Fort Myers Miracle. He made his second start of the season on June 21. Gruver threw 2.0 innings allowing one run on one hit and walked one, but was hit with his fifth loss of the year. He bounced back on June 24, throwing 2.1 shutout innings while allowing two hits and striking out three hitters.

    Ty'Relle Harris - SP, Bridgeport Bluefish (Independent - Atlantic League)

    Season: 0-6, 6.94 ERA, 8 G, 36.1 IP, 38 H, 34 R, 28 ER, 27 BB, 27 K
    Ty'Relle Harris did not record any innings this week for the Bridgeport Bluefish.

    Deunte Heath - RP, Charlotte Knights (AAA - Chicago White Sox)

    Season: 2-1, 2.75 ERA, 17 G, 39.1 IP, 31 H, 16 R, 12 ER, 21 BB, 41 K
    Deunte Heath started two games for the Charlotte Knights this week (June 19-25). He received a win (June 20) after tossing 6.0 innings allowing only one run on five hits and striking out three. Heath picked up his second win of the week June 25, after he fired 6.0 innings allowing two runs on seven hits and recording seven strikeouts.

    Nick Hernandez - SP, Winnipeg Goldeyes (Independent - American Association)

    Season: 3-0, 3.51 ERA, 7 G, 41.0 IP, 46 H, 16 R, 16 ER, 7 BB, 46 K
    Nick Hernandez earned his third win of the season this week for the Winnipeg Goldeyes (June 23). Hernandez threw 7.0 shutout innings allowing only four hits while fanning eight hitters. He saw his ERA drop 72 points after Monday's performance.

    Will Maddox - 1B, Connecticut Tigers (A-Short Season - Detroit Tigers)

    Season: .286, 5 G, 4 R, 4 H, 0 2B, 0 HR, 2 RBIs
    Will Maddox hit the ball well during his first week with the Connecticut Tigers (June 19-25). His week included a 2-for-3 performance during his debut on June 19.

    Bryan Morgado - RP, Camden Riversharks (Independent - Atlantic League)

    Season: 1-2, 2.28 ERA, 25 G, 19.2 IP, 20 H, 8 R, 5 ER, 15 BB, 15 K
    Bryan Morgado appeared in two games this week (June 19-25) for the Camden Riversharks. He threw 2.1 innings and picked up his first win of the season while allowing no runs on three hits and striking out three. Morgado currently leads the team with 25 appearances.

    Khayyan Norfork - 3B, Potomac Nationals (A-Advanced - Washington Nationals)

    Season: .259, 52 G, 29 R, 49 H, 12 2B, 2 HR, 23 RBIs
    Khayyan Norfork played in five games over the week (June 19-25) with the Potomac Nationals. The former Vol went 5-for-15 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs. Norfolk's week included a 3-for-4 with a double, one run scored and two RBIs effort on Sunday.

    Zach Osborne - SS, Asheville Tourists (A - Colorado Rockies)

    Season: .298, 33 G, 17 R, 31 H, 7 2B, 1 HR, 14 RBIs
    Zach Osborne played in three games this week (June 12-18) with the Asheville Tourists. He went 1-for-9 with a double and three walks.

    Matt Ramsey - RP, Montgomery Biscuits (AA - Tampa Bay Rays)

    Season: 2-0, 1.42 ERA, 20 G, 5 SV, 25.1 IP, 11 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 19 BB, 38 K
    Matt Ramsey made three appearances this week (June 19-25), recording his second win and two more saves for the Montgomery Biscuits. Ramsey fired 3.0 shutout innings, allowing four hits while striking out six. He has been extremely dominant at home this season. Ramsey has appeared in nine games, recorded 11.2 shutout innings and 18 strikeouts at home for the Biscuits.

    Andy Simunic - OF, Gwinnett Braves (AAA - Atlanta Braves)

    Season: .262, 38 G, 11 R, 28 H, 5 2B, 1 HR, 10 RBIs
    Andy Simunic signed a minor league deal with the Atlanta Braves on June 6 after being released by the Houston Astros. He did not appear in any games for the Braves this week (June 19-25).

    Taylor Smart - SS, Everett AquaSox (A-Short Season - Seattle Mariners)

    Season: .250, 11 G, 5 R, 9 H, 1 2B, 0 HR, 4 RBIs
    Taylor Smart appeared in six games during his second week (June 19-25) with the Everett AquaSox. He went 7-for-27 with one double, four runs scored and four RBIs. Smart recorded his first multi-hit game on June 20, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs.

    Aaron Tullo - SP, Camden Riversharks (Independent - Atlantic League)

    Season: 0-3, 16.20 ERA, 4 G, 10.0 IP, 19 H, 18 R, 18 ER, 15 BB, 7 K
    Aaron Tullo did not record any innings this week for the Camden Riversharks.

    Nick Williams - SP, GCL Marlins (Rookie - Miami Marlins)

    Season: 0-1, 9.00 ERA, 1 G, 2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
    Nick Williams was hit with the loss after his first start with the GCL Marlins on Saturday (June 21). He tossed 2.0 innings allowing two runs on two hits, three walks and recorded one strike out.
