Few feats are more incredible than pitching a perfect game. Thursday, the Chicago White Sox' Mark Buehrle did just that. Several former Vols are also performing some amazing feats as baseball fans marvel at the 18th perfect game in Major League history. James Adkins, J.P. Arencibia, Julio Borbon and Todd Helton are all performing at the top of their game this week.
James Adkins- RHP, Chattanooga Lookouts
The month of July is going well for former Vol star James Adkins (2005-07). Since July 1, Adkins boasts a 2.01 ERA, 13 strikeouts and has only allowed 5 runs in 22.1 innings pitched. This week, the right-hander earned two wins (July 18, 23). Adkins hasn't allowed a run in his last 22.1 innings pitched and is 3-0 overall in July.
J.P. Arencibia- C, Las Vegas 51s
J.P. Arencibia (2005-07) has stepped up his offensive production during the month of July. This week, he is batting .292 and has scored three runs. As he as done all season, Arencibia is atop the Pacific Coast League's doubles category, ranking ninth with 25. He has two doubles this week, as well as three runs, two homers and three RBI.
Julio Borbon- OF, Oklahoma City RedHawks
Since returning to the RedHawks, Julio Borbon (2005-07) has been back into old habits. Borbon smashed a .409 batting average this week as the RedHawks owned a 5-2 record. On three occasions this week, Borbon hit over .400. He also scored three runs and had one RBI. Borbon ranks seventh in the PCL in hits with 107 and 10th in runs with 62.
Todd Helton- 1B, Colorado Rockies
Knoxville, Tenn. native Todd Helton (1993-95) is the model of consistency. All year Helton has been belting hits and homers and helping the Rockies stay in the National League Wild Card race. He has a .385 batting average this week, as well as a a home run and three RBI.
