Pros Update (7/24): Gomes Hot Streak

J.P. Arencibia - C/1B, Texas Rangers

    (Minors) Season: .279, 48 G, 31 R, 53 H, 8 2B, 14 HR, 41 RBIs
    J.P. Arencibia played in six games this week (July 18-23) for the Rangers after being called up on July 18. He hit 3-for-21 (.142) with one home run and four RBIs during that span. His solo homer this week came in the 13th frame to tie the game against the Yankees, shortly before fellow VFL Chase Headley hit a walk-off single in his debut with New York.

    R.A. Dickey - SP, Toronto Blue Jays

    Season: 8-10, 4.04 ERA, 22 G, 138.0 IP, 130 H, 72 R, 62 ER, 51 BB, 116 K
    R.A. Dickey went 1-1 this week (July 18-23), capturing his eighth win of the season on July 23 vs. Boston (6.0 IP, 9 H, 4 ER, BB, 5 SO). With the win, Dickey is now 8-10 with a 4.04 ERA in 22 starts with Toronto. In the month of July, Dickey is 2-3 with a 3.44 ERA. He has granted just eight free passes in his five July starts this year, while striking out 28 batters in 34.0 innings.

    Yan Gomes - C, Cleveland Indians

    Yan Gomes appeared in seven games this week (July 18-23) for the Cleveland Indians. Gomes went 9-for-18 (.500) with a homer, five runs scored and three RBIs. He is hitting an impressive .358 against left-handed pitching this season and is .327 with four home runs and 11 RBIs during the month of July.

    Chase Headley - 3B, New York Yankees

    On Tuesday, long-time Padre Headley was traded to the New York Yankees in exchange for infielder Yangervis Solarte and right-handed pitching prospect Rafael De Paula. In his debut with the Yankees on Tuesday night, he delivered a game-winning single to left field in the 14th frame against the Rangers. Overall, Headley played in five games this week between San Diego and New York (July 18-23), hitting a combined .316 (6-for-19) with four RBIs. Headley is 23-for-71 (.324) during the month of July.

    Luke Hochevar - SP, Kansas City Royals

    Luke Hochevar underwent Tommy John surgery on March 18, 2014. He will miss the entire 2014 season and is expected to return for the 2015 season.

    MINOR LEAGUES

    Julio Borbon - OF, Norfolk Tides (AAA - Baltimore Orioles)

    Season: .293, 94 G, 54 R, 101 H, 6 2B, 4 3B, 5 HR, 33 RBIs
    Julio Borbon went 9-for-25 (.360) with one RBI through five games this week (July 18-23) for the Norfolk Tides. Borbon currently owns a five-game hit streak and has reached base safely in each of his last 10 games with the Tides. During the month of July, Borbon is 24-for-72 (.333) with only eight strikeouts.

    Kentrail Davis - OF, Huntsville Stars (AA - Milwaukee Brewers)

    Season: .256, 84 G, 42 R, 74 H, 18 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 32 RBIs
    Kentrail Davis played in five games this week (July 19-23), including both games of a doubleheader, for the Huntsville Stars. He was 1-for-13 during the week.

    Matt Duffy - 3B, Oklahoma City RedHawks (AAA - Houston Astros)

    Season (AA): .302, 49 G, 23 R, 61 H, 11 2b, 1 3B, 6 HR, 35 RBI
    Matt Duffy played in seven games for the Oklahoma City RedHawks this week (July 18-23). He went 9-for-20 (.450) with two home runs and six RBIs including a big night on Wednesday, going 3-for-4 with one homer and four RBIs.

    Blake Forsythe - C, Midland RockHounds (AA - Oakland Athletics)

    Season: .225, 50 G, 17 R, 38 H, 8 2B, 4 HR, 15 RBIs
    Blake Forsythe went 2-for-10 with one triple through four games (July 20-23) this week for the Midland RockHounds.

    Zack Godley - RP, Daytona Cubs (A-Advanced - Chicago Cubs)

    Season: 3-1, 4.28 ERA, 20 G, 27.1 IP, 29 H, 18 R, 13 ER, 13 BB, 33 K
    Zack Godley made two appearances and threw 3.0 innings for the Daytona Cubs this week (July 18-20). He allowed only two hits while striking out five hitters this week.

    Steven Gruver - RP, Fort Myers Miracle (A-Advanced - Minnesota Twins)

    Season: 2-5, 3.05 ERA, 34 G, 56.0 IP, 50 H, 22 R, 19 ER, 26 BB, 40 K
    Steven Gruver appeared in three games and threw 2.1 innings this week for the Fort Myers Miracle. He earned his second win of the season on Tuesday, firing 1.0 scoreless inning of relief in the club's 7-6 victory. He is 1-0 with 3.18 ERA for the month of July.

    Deunte Heath - RP, Charlotte Knights (AAA - Chicago White Sox)

    Season: 5-1, 3.22 ERA, 22 G, 64.1 IP, 54 H, 27 R, 23 ER, 32 BB, 73 K
    Deunte Heath did not log any innings this week.

    Nick Hernandez - SP, Winnipeg Goldeyes (Independent - American Association)

    Season: 6-2, 3.98 ERA, 12 G, 74.2 IP, 81 H, 34 R, 33 ER, 12 BB, 60 K
    Nick Hernandez captured his sixth win of the season this week (July 10-16) for the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Hernandez threw 7.2 innings on July 20, allowing three earned runs on seven hits while logging five punchouts and no walks.

    Will Maddox - 3B, Connecticut Tigers (A-Short Season - Detroit Tigers)

    Season: .240, 17 G, 10 R, 12 H, 1 2B, 0 HR, 2 RBIs, 2-2 SB
    Will Maddox played in five games this week with the Connecticut Tigers (July 17-23), going 3-for-14 (.214) with a patient five walks.

    Khayyan Norfork - 3B, Potomac Nationals (A-Advanced - Washington Nationals)

    Season: .246, 75 G, 35 R, 66 H, 14 2B, 5 3B, 2 HR, 29 RBIs
    Khayyan Norfork went 1-for-16 in his four games this week (July 17-22) with the Potomac Nationals.

    Zach Osborne played in two games this week with the Asheville Tourists. He did not record a hit through five at-bats from July 19-20. He is hitting .386 (22-for-57) in his 20 games at Asheville's McCormick Field this season.

    Scott Price - 1B, AZL Giants (Rookie - San Francisco Giants)

    Season: .300, 15 G, 8 R, 15 H, 3 2B, 1 3B, 0 HR, 8 RBIs
    Scott Price played in three games this week (July 18-23) with the AZL Giants, hitting 4-for-11 (.364) with three RBIs during that span. Price improved his season average against left-handers to .538 (7-for-13) and is hitting .303 (10-for-33) during the month of July.

    Matt Ramsey - RP, Jacksonville Suns (AA - Miami Marlins)

    Season: 3-1, 0.85 ERA, 30 G, 9 SV, 42.1 IP, 20 H, 8 R, 4 ER, 25 BB, 57 K
    Matt Ramsey was handed his first loss of the year on Tuesday (July 22), allowing three runs (none earned) on one hit in his 1.0 inning of work. Ramsey threw in three games this week (July 18-22), combining to allow just two hits over 3.1 innings.

    Taylor Smart - SS, Everett AquaSox (A-Short Season - Seattle Mariners)

    Season: .222, 31 G, 8 R, 24 H, 2 2B, 0 HR, 9 RBIs
    Taylor Smart appeared in six games this week (July 17-22) with the Everett AquaSox, going 3-for-15 (.200). Smart recorded multiple hits (2-for-4) in his start on July 21 and is currently 9-for-30 (.300) against left-handed pitching.

    Nick Williams - SP, GCL Marlins (Rookie - Miami Marlins)

    Season: 0-5, 4.50 ERA, 6 G, 18.0 IP, 16 H, 11 R, 9 ER, 8 BB, 12 K
    Nick Williams received a no-decision in his only appearance last week (July 15) and did not see action this week for the Marlins.
