KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Vols have 19 former players playing professional baseball at every level. One former Vol, J.P. Arencibia, has provided an offensive spark after being recalled to the Texas Rangers. Get the full breakdown of the VFLs here.
J.P. Arencibia - 1B, Texas Rangers
J.P. Arencibia played in seven games this week (July 24-30) for the the Rangers after being called up on July 18. He went 9-for-26 (.346) with two doubles, three home runs, three runs scored and twelve RBIs for the week. Arencibia posted an incredible 4-for-5 with two doubles, two home runs, two runs scored, seven RBIs and 12 total bases effort on July 29 against the Yankees.
R.A. Dickey - SP, Toronto Blue Jays
Season: 9-10, 3.91 ERA, 23 G, 145.0 IP, 133 H, 73 R, 63 ER, 52 BB, 126 K
R.A. Dickey earned his ninth win of the season on July 28 vs. Boston (7.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 10 SO). Dickey is now 3-3 with a 3.07 ERA in 22 starts with Toronto in the month of July. He has granted just nine free passes in his six July starts this year, while striking out 38 batters in 41.0 innings.
Yan Gomes - C, Cleveland Indians
Season: .281, 93 G, 46 R, 93 H, 18 2B, 1 3B, 14 HR, 45 RBIs
Yan Gomes appeared in six games this week (July 24-30) for the Cleveland Indians. Gomes went 9-for-26 (.346) with two doubles, a homer, four runs scored and six RBIs. After the All-Star break, he is hitting an impressive .409 and is .333 with five home runs and 17 RBIs during the month of July.
Chase Headley - 3B, New York Yankees
Season: .237, 86 G, 31 R, 74 H, 14 2B, 1 3B, 8 HR, 36 RBIs
After being traded to the New York Yankees, Chase Headley has raised his average by eight points. Headley played in seven games this week for New York (July 24-30), hitting .296 (8-for-27) with a double, a homer, four runs scored and three RBIs. He is 10-for-33 (.303) since joining the Yankees.
Luke Hochevar - SP, Kansas City Royals
Luke Hochevar underwent Tommy John surgery on March 18, 2014. He will miss the entire 2014 season and is expected to return for the 2015 season.
Julio Borbon - OF, Norfolk Tides (AAA - Baltimore Orioles)
Season: .293, 100 G, 59 R, 109 H, 7 2B, 4 3B, 5 HR, 35 RBIs
Julio Borbon went 8-for-27 (.296) with a double, five runs scored and two RBIs through six games this week (July 24-30) for the Norfolk Tides. Borbon currently owns a 11-game hit streak and has reached base safely in each of his last 16 games with the Tides. During the month of July, Borbon is 32-for-99 (.323) with two doubles, a homer and eight RBIs.
