Pros Update (7/31): Arencibia's Spark

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Vols have 19 former players playing professional baseball at every level. One former Vol, J.P. Arencibia, has provided an offensive spark after being recalled to the Texas Rangers. Get the full breakdown of the VFLs here.

    (Minors) Season: .279, 48 G, 31 R, 53 H, 8 2B, 14 HR, 41 RBIs
    J.P. Arencibia played in seven games this week (July 24-30) for the the Rangers after being called up on July 18. He went 9-for-26 (.346) with two doubles, three home runs, three runs scored and twelve RBIs for the week. Arencibia posted an incredible 4-for-5 with two doubles, two home runs, two runs scored, seven RBIs and 12 total bases effort on July 29 against the Yankees.

    R.A. Dickey - SP, Toronto Blue Jays

    Season: 9-10, 3.91 ERA, 23 G, 145.0 IP, 133 H, 73 R, 63 ER, 52 BB, 126 K
    R.A. Dickey earned his ninth win of the season on July 28 vs. Boston (7.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 10 SO). Dickey is now 3-3 with a 3.07 ERA in 22 starts with Toronto in the month of July. He has granted just nine free passes in his six July starts this year, while striking out 38 batters in 41.0 innings.

    Yan Gomes - C, Cleveland Indians

    Season: .281, 93 G, 46 R, 93 H, 18 2B, 1 3B, 14 HR, 45 RBIs
    Yan Gomes appeared in six games this week (July 24-30) for the Cleveland Indians. Gomes went 9-for-26 (.346) with two doubles, a homer, four runs scored and six RBIs. After the All-Star break, he is hitting an impressive .409 and is .333 with five home runs and 17 RBIs during the month of July.

    Chase Headley - 3B, New York Yankees

    After being traded to the New York Yankees, Chase Headley has raised his average by eight points. Headley played in seven games this week for New York (July 24-30), hitting .296 (8-for-27) with a double, a homer, four runs scored and three RBIs. He is 10-for-33 (.303) since joining the Yankees.

    Luke Hochevar - SP, Kansas City Royals

    Luke Hochevar underwent Tommy John surgery on March 18, 2014. He will miss the entire 2014 season and is expected to return for the 2015 season.

    MINOR LEAGUES

    Julio Borbon - OF, Norfolk Tides (AAA - Baltimore Orioles)

    Season: .293, 100 G, 59 R, 109 H, 7 2B, 4 3B, 5 HR, 35 RBIs
    Julio Borbon went 8-for-27 (.296) with a double, five runs scored and two RBIs through six games this week (July 24-30) for the Norfolk Tides. Borbon currently owns a 11-game hit streak and has reached base safely in each of his last 16 games with the Tides. During the month of July, Borbon is 32-for-99 (.323) with two doubles, a homer and eight RBIs.

    Kentrail Davis - OF, Huntsville Stars (AA - Milwaukee Brewers)

    Season: .249, 89 G, 45 R, 76 H, 19 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 34 RBIs
    Kentrail Davis played in five games this week (July 24-30) for the Huntsville Stars. We was 2-for-16 with a double and two RBIs during the week.

    Matt Duffy - 3B, Oklahoma City RedHawks (AAA - Houston Astros)

    Season (AAA): .245, 57 G, 25 R, 48 H, 6 2B, 2 3B, 10 HR, 31 RBIs
    Season (AA): .302, 49 G, 23 R, 61 H, 11 2b, 1 3B, 6 HR, 35 RBI
    Matt Duffy played in seven games for the Oklahoma City RedHawks this week (July 24-30). He went 5-for-22 (.227) with a double and four RBIs.

    Blake Forsythe - C, Midland RockHounds (AA - Oakland Athletics)

    Season: .223, 52 G, 17 R, 39 H, 9 2B, 4 HR, 17 RBIs
    Blake Forsythe went 1-for-6 with a double and two RBIs through two games (July 24-30) this week for the Midland RockHounds.

    Zack Godley - RP, Daytona Cubs (A-Advanced - Chicago Cubs)

    Season: 3-2, 4.40 ERA, 22 G, 30.2 IP, 33 H, 20 R, 15 ER, 13 BB, 36 K
    Zack Godley made two appearances and threw 3.1 innings for the Daytona Cubs this week (July 24-30). He was charged with his second loss while allowing two earned runs on four hits and striking out three hitters this week.

    Steven Gruver - RP, Fort Myers Miracle (A-Advanced - Minnesota Twins)

    Season: 2-5, 3.15 ERA, 36 G, 60.0 IP, 57 H, 24 R, 21 ER, 28 BB, 43 K
    Steven Gruver made one start and appeared in another game this week for the Fort Myers Miracle. He tossed 1.0 scoreless inning of relief on July 25. Gruver made his fourth start of the season on July 29, receiving a no-decision after going 3.0 innings and allowing two runs on four hits.

    Nick Hernandez - SP, Winnipeg Goldeyes (Independent - American Association)

    Season: 6-2, 3.60 ERA, 13 G, 77.1 IP, 86 H, 37 R, 33 ER, 15 BB, 60 K
    Nick Hernandez received a no-decision in his only appearance this week (July 24-30) for the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Hernandez threw 2.2 innings on July 26, allowing three unearned runs on five hits and three walks.

    Will Maddox - 3B, Connecticut Tigers (A-Short Season - Detroit Tigers)

    Season: .246, 20 G, 13 R, 15 H, 2 2B, 0 HR, 2 RBIs, 6-6 SB
    Will Maddox played in three games this week with the Connecticut Tigers (July 24-30). He went 3-for-11 (.273) with a double, two stolen bases and three runs scored.

    Khayyan Norfork - 3B, Potomac Nationals (A-Advanced - Washington Nationals)

    Season: .248, 78 G, 37 R, 69 H, 16 2B, 5 3B, 2 HR, 31 RBIs
    Khayyan Norfork went 3-for-10 with two doubles and two RBIs in his four games this week (July 24-30) with the Potomac Nationals.

    Zach Osborne - SS, Asheville Tourists (A - Colorado Rockies)

    Zach Osborne played in five games this week with the Asheville Tourists. He went 3-for-18 with a triple and two RBIs. He is hitting .348 in his 24 games at Asheville's McCormick Field this season.

    Scott Price - 1B, AZL Giants (Rookie - San Francisco Giants)

    Season: .262, 19 G, 10 R, 16 H, 4 2B, 1 3B, 0 HR, 9 RBIs
    Scott Price went 1-for-11 with a double, two runs scored and one RBI in four games this week (July 24-30) with the AZL Giants. Price is hitting .400 with all 16 of his hits coming in his 11 games at home this season.

    Matt Ramsey - RP, Jacksonville Suns (AA - Miami Marlins)

    Season: 3-1, 1.02 ERA, 32 G, 10 SV, 44.1 IP, 22 H, 9 R, 5 ER, 25 BB, 60 K
    Matt Ramsey picked up his tenth save of the season he year on Sunday (July 27) by firing 1.1 no-hit shutout innings and striking out three hitters. Ramsey threw in two games this week (July 24-30), combining to allow one run on just two hits over 2.0 innings.

    Taylor Smart - SS, Everett AquaSox (A-Short Season - Seattle Mariners)

    Season: .237, 36 G, 10 R, 28 H, 2 2B, 0 HR, 9 RBIs
    Taylor Smart appeared in five games this week (July 24-30) with the Everett AquaSox, going 4-for-10 (.400) with five walks. He is 7-for-21 (.333) in his last ten games.

    Nick Williams - SP, GCL Marlins (Rookie - Miami Marlins)

    Season: 0-5, 4.50 ERA, 7 G, 22.0 IP, 21 H, 13 R, 11 ER, 9 BB, 16 K
    Nick Williams made his third start of the season for the Marlins and received a no-decision. He fired 4.0 innings allowing two runs on five hits and recorded four strikeouts.
