Pros Update (8/7): Gomes Hammers Away

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Vols have 19 former players playing professional baseball at every level. One former Vol, Yan Gomes, is currently riding a 12-game hitting streak dating back to July 24. Get the full breakdown of the VFLs in professional baseball right here.

J.P. Arencibia - 1B, Texas Rangers

    (Minors) Season: .279, 48 G, 31 R, 53 H, 8 2B, 14 HR, 41 RBIs
    J.P. Arencibia played in five games this week (August 1-6) for the the Rangers. He went 4-for-17 (.235) with one double, one home run, three runs scored and four RBIs for the week. Arencibia went 3-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs on Aug. 5 while visiting the Chicago White Sox.

    R.A. Dickey - SP, Toronto Blue Jays

    Season: 9-11, 4.03 ERA, 24 G, 152.0 IP, 142 H, 78 R, 68 ER, 52 BB, 129 K
    R.A. Dickey was handed his 11th loss of the season in his lone start this week (Aug. 2), allowing five runs on nine hits while fanning three batters against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park.

    Yan Gomes - C, Cleveland Indians

    Season: .286, 99 G, 49 R, 100 H, 21 2B, 1 3B, 16 HR, 50 RBIs
    Yan Gomes appeared in six games this week (August 1-6) for the Cleveland Indians, and is currently riding an 12-game hit streak dating back to July 24. During that span, Gomes is 16-for-45 (.356) with five doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIS. He is hitting .440 (6-for-15) in the month of August.

    Headley played in six games this week for New York (August 1-6), hitting .208 (5-for-24) with a double, two runs scored, a homer and two RBIs. He is 15-for-57 (.263) since joining the Yankees.

    Luke Hochevar - SP, Kansas City Royals

    Luke Hochevar underwent Tommy John surgery on March 18, 2014. He will miss the entire 2014 season and is expected to return for the 2015 season.

    Julio Borbon - OF, Norfolk Tides (AAA - Baltimore Orioles)

    Season: .289, 104 G, 60 R, 111 H, 7 2B, 4 3B, 5 HR, 36 RBIs
    Julio Borbon went 2-for-11 (.182) with one RBI through three games this week (August 1-4) for the Norfolk Tides. During the month of July, Borbon went 32-for-100 (.320) with two doubles, a homer and eight RBIs.

    Kentrail Davis - OF, Huntsville Stars (AA - Milwaukee Brewers)

    Season: .250, 94 G, 46 R, 80 H, 22 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 35 RBIs
    Kentrail Davis played in four games this week (August 1-6) for the Huntsville Stars. We was 4-for-12 (.333) with three doubles and one RBI during the week, including a 2-for-4, two double night on August 1 against Jacksonville.

    Matt Duffy - 3B, Oklahoma City RedHawks (AAA - Houston Astros)

    Season (AA): .302, 49 G, 23 R, 61 H, 11 2b, 1 3B, 6 HR, 35 RBI
    Matt Duffy played in five games for the Oklahoma City RedHawks this week (August 1-6). He went 7-for-19 (.368) with one double, one home run and eight RBIs, including a 2-for-3, three RBI game on August 1 at Round Rock.

    Blake Forsythe - C, Midland RockHounds (AA - Oakland Athletics)

    Season: .227, 55 G, 19 R, 42 H, 9 2B, 4 HR, 18 RBIs
    Blake Forsythe went 1-for-7 (.143) through two games (August 1-2) this week for the Midland RockHounds.

    Zack Godley - RP, Daytona Cubs (A-Advanced - Chicago Cubs)

    Season: 3-2, 4.26 ERA, 23 G, 31.2 IP, 34 H, 20 R, 15 ER, 14 BB, 38 K
    Zack Godley made one appearance this week (August 5) and threw 1.0 inning for the Daytona Cubs. He received no decision while allowing one hit with one walk and two strikeouts in relief.

    Steven Gruver - RP, Fort Myers Miracle (A-Advanced - Minnesota Twins)

    Season: 2-6, 3.05 ERA, 37 G, 65.0 IP, 59 H, 25 R, 22 ER, 29 BB, 44 K
    Steven Gruver made one start this week for the Fort Myers Miracle (August 3). He tossed 5.0 innings, surrendering one run on two hits en route to taking his sixth loss of the season.

    Nick Hernandez - SP, Winnipeg Goldeyes (Independent - American Association)

    Season: 8-2, 3.50 ERA, 15 G, 90.0 IP, 98 H, 43 R, 35 ER, 17 BB, 73 K
    Nick Hernandez earned the win in each of his two starts for Winnipeg this week (August 2, 6). Over 12.2 collective innings, he allowed four earned runs and struck out 13 batters. With the win, Hernandez improved to 8-2 with a 3.50 ERA on the season.

    Will Maddox - 3B, Connecticut Tigers (A-Short Season - Detroit Tigers)

    Season: .256, 25 G, 17 R, 21 H, 3 2B, 0 HR, 2 RBIs, 7-7 SB
    Will Maddox played in four games this week with the Connecticut Tigers (August 1-6). He went 4-for-15 (.267) during that span, including a 3-for-4, two runs scored night on August 3 at Brooklyn.

    Khayyan Norfork - 3B, Potomac Nationals (A-Advanced - Washington Nationals)

    Season: .249, 81 G, 38 R, 71 H, 16 2B, 5 3B, 2 HR, 32 RBIs
    Khayyan Norfork went 2-for-7 with one RBI in his three games this week (August 3-6) with the Potomac Nationals.

    Zach Osborne - SS, Asheville Tourists (A - Colorado Rockies)

    Season: .284, 53 G, 23 R, 50 H, 9 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 19 RBIs
    Zach Osborne had a huge week in four games with the Asheville Tourists (August 1-5). He went 9-for-17 (.529) with one double and two RBIs and is currently riding a five-game hitting streak since July 30.

    Scott Price - 1B, San Jose Giants (A-Advanced - San Francisco Giants)

    Season (R): .275, 21 G, 12 R, 19 H, 5 2B, 1 3B, 0 HR, 10 RBIs
    Season (A): .000, 1 G, 0 R, 0 H, 0 2B, 0 3B, 0 HR, 0 RBIs
    Scott Price was promoted from the Arizona League to San Francisco's Class A-Advanced San Jose Giants this week, after hitting .275 in 21 games. In his debut with San Jose on August 5, Price went 0-for-2 with one walk for a .333 on-base percentage.

    Matt Ramsey - RP, Jacksonville Suns (AA - Miami Marlins)

    Season: 3-1, 0.95 ERA, 34 G, 10 SV, 47.1 IP, 25 H, 9 R, 5 ER, 25 BB, 66 K
    Matt Ramsey made two relief appearances this week for Jacksonville. On August 1, he fired 2.0 scoreless frames while striking out five batters. On August 4, he allowed just one hit over 1.0 inning of work.

    Taylor Smart - SS, Everett AquaSox (A-Short Season - Seattle Mariners)

    Season: .237, 37 G, 10 R, 28 H, 2 2B, 0 HR, 9 RBIs
    Taylor Smart appeared in one game this week (August 2) with the Everett AquaSox. He is 7-for-21 (.333) in his last ten games.

    Nick Williams - SP, GCL Marlins (Rookie - Miami Marlins)

    Season: 0-5, 4.88 ERA, 8 G, 24.0 IP, 23 H, 15 R, 13 ER, 12 BB, 18 K
    Nick Williams made one appearance in relief this week for the Marlins (August 2), allowing two runs on two hits in his 2.0 innings of relief work.
