KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Scooter McFadgon scored 19 points Sunday and Chris Lofton had 12 to lead Tennessee to an 83-51 victory over Coastal Carolina.
Tennessee (7-5) hit 12 of its first 13 shots and built a 28-8 lead on Andre Patterson's basket with 11 minutes left in the first half. The Vols finished the half with an 11-2 run in the last five minutes for a 48-21 lead. Tennessee shot 66.7 percent from the field in the first half and was 4-of-10 from 3-point range.
Coastal Carolina (3-9), which missed 14 of its first 17 shots, shot 27.3 percent from the field in the first half and was 2-of-9 from 3-point range. The Vols stretched the lead to 35 on Major Wingate's shot in the post with 13:41 left in the game. The lead grew to 40 when Lofton scored with 10 minutes to play.
Tennessee shot 55.4 percent from the floor and was 13-of-23 from the foul line. Coastal Carolina shot 30.8 percent from the floor and was 4-of-7 at the line.
McFadgon scored all of his points in the first half on 8-of-10 shooting. Brandon Crump had nine points and 10 rebounds for the Vols. Coastal Carolina was led by Pele Paelay with 14 points.
Each team played its final tune-up before starting conference play. Tennessee plays its first Southeastern Conference game Wednesday at Georgia. Coastal Carolina opens its Big South Conference schedule at home Wednesday against Winthrop.
