AGGIES IN KNOXVILLE Tonight Texas A&M made its conference debut at Thompson Boling Arena and earned its first win in Knoxville
The beginning of tonight's game was very different from last year's four-overtime game, the longest game in UT history as the Vols had a 14-point halftime lead.
The end had shades of last season's match as the Aggies responded in the second half winning on a three-point basket with 4.4 seconds left
Texas A&M has made three previous appearances in Knoxville for non-conference games on Dec. 15, 1951 (W, 60-52), Dec. 7, 1985 (W, 88-70) and Dec. 2, 2003 (W, 108-84)
DE-FENSE Tennessee has held its last four opponents to less than 58 points
Over that span, UT's opponents are shooting .340 from the field and .298 from three-point range
The Vols have forced 10.7 turnovers per game, notched 4.8 blocks and 5.5 steals.
Tennessee has now held 38 of their last 48 opponents to fewer than 70 points, dating to last season.
MAYMON REBOUNDS For the fourth time this season, Jeronne Maymon notched double-figure rebounds.
For just the fourt time in his career he hit the 15-rebound mark, second time this season
The redshirt senior finished the game with 15 rebounds his final two the biggest of the game
Maymon finished the game with nine points to go along with his rebounds
EDWARDS ADDITIONS After playing just three minutes over a nine-game span, D'Montre Edwards has become a factor for the Vols finishing the game with three points, five rebounds and a monster block in 13 minutes
The block was Edwards' first career block and came in the second half
In the first half, Edwards finished with a three-pointer and four rebounds in 10 minutes of play.
REESE TACKS ON Another Vol stepping up for Tennessee lately is sophomore guard Derek Reese.
After not playing in the first 10 games of the season, Reese is averaging 13.2 minutes and 5.2 points per game
Against A&M Reese finished with three points and four rebounds in 10 minutes of action.
AT THE HALF The Vols headed to halftime with a 32-18 lead, the second-straight game with a 14-point lead at the half.
The 18-points allowed at the half were the fewest this season and the least since giving up 18 to Western Carolina (Dec. 21, 2012) last season
They were the fewest points given up at the half since holding Auburn to 16 on Jan. 28, 2012.
Josh Richardson led all scorers with seven points in an evenly distributed first half. Jeronne Maymon pulled down eight rebounds, nearly outrebounding A&M in the first half (13).
