TENNESSEE HEAD COACH Cuonzo Martin
(On the game)
"The 20 turnovers, that was the ball game. You can't defend the way we defended, holding them to 34 percent from the field and 2-for-19 from 3-point-range for 10 percent. But, 20 turnovers, you just don't give yourself a chance to win the ball game, it's unfortunate. You can't turn the ball over like that. I told the guys I don't really have a lot of answers. When a team (Georgia) isn't really pressuring you on the perimeter and you turn the ball over 20 times, its just unacceptable."
(On shot selection)
"You have to take care of the ball. Our goal is to pound the ball inside. Our bigs have to think about posting aggressively. In the second half, we did a better job of finding our bigs, but I think our bigs had some key turnovers. Also, our perimeter guys need to take care of the ball as well."
(On Golden's play and if his ankle hindered him)
"I don't think (his ankle) was his problem. He had 16 points and he was still able to drive the ball to the rim. I thought he was solid defensively."
(On the final shot of regulation)
"We wanted Trae to come off that ball screen, (Georgia) doubled the ball screen, we wanted a pick-and-pop to Jeronne (Maymon) would attack the rim and Trae get the shot. He shot a pull-up a little off balance. I thought he had a solid look."
"The play was for me to come off the screen and hit a shot. It was long, hit the back of the rim. In overtime we kept letting Robinson get around the ball screen, some costly turnovers and we just didn't finish again."
(On the road atmosphere)
"I felt we were fine with the atmosphere, and I thought we did a really good job with the atmosphere, so that part was fine. We've got take care of the ball and give ourselves a chance. So many unforced turnovers it was hard to compete at the level we wanted to especially considering how [well] we played defensively."
"Twenty turnovers with not a lot of pressure being applied, that can't happen."
"I thought we handled the environment fine, but for us making simple passes, bigs being able to avoid the double team, and guards being able to find the open man and not being careless with the ball."
(On the last five minutes of regulation)
"I definitely thought we had the game in our hand, like I said, a couple turnovers and things like that hurt us in the end. We just need to keep working to get better. The number of turnovers] was really disappointing."
SOPHOMORE GUARD Trae Golden
(On his final look in regulation)
"It just didn't go down for me. I just came off a screen. That was my shot that I think I'm pretty good at. It just didn't go down for me. I tried to get to the basket and make a play. They played pretty good defense. I definitely thought it was going in."
(On Tennessee's turnover woes)
"It was tough for us. We had 20 turnovers tonight. We have to cut down our turnovers and that's something we really have to work on."
(On Georgia's crowd)
"I think anytime you play a team in the SEC, they're going to have a great crowd and a crowd that's full of energy, especially when (Gerald) Robinson hit the shot to tie the game. It's tough, but it's what you're going to get every night so you can't really complain about it."
(On Tennessee's home game Saturday against the Huskies)
"Connecticut is a great team and we have to be ready Saturday. We have to play much better."
GEORGIA HEAD COACH MARK FOX
(On tonight's game)
"I haven't seen the stats yet, but that was obviously a low scoring affair. Both teams played with great effort defensively. I have to credit Tennessee, they played well and they're a good basketball team. It was a very hard fought win for us."
(On his team's character)
"This game really showed the character of both teams. We both played really hard, and I'm very proud of my team and the way they battled to stay in it and win this game."
(On Marcus Thornton's impact)
"Marcus (Thornton) made a huge impact for us defensively. He hasn't been able to play or even practice in a month but he really made some key plays for us. We didn't know he could play until yesterday when he went to the doctor, but there was zero hesitation in our decision. We needed him on defense, and even though we only got him out there in short bursts he really made some key plays for us down the stretch."
GEORGIA SOPHOMORE FORWARD DONTE' WILLIAMS
(On the team getting its first conference win)
"We had a hard time in three conference games, so we needed to get this win. We didn't want to dig ourselves any deeper in the hole so this win was really important."
GEORGIA SENIOR GUARD GERALD ROBINSON
(On the game)
"We showed our will to win tonight. We knew we had to fight. We missed a lot of easy shots, especially around the bucket, so our main focus was to just stay in the game. This was a more gritty game, and we were able to come out on top."
