TENNESSEE HEAD COACH Buzz Peterson
"I'm proud of our guys for the fight they showed. They never gave up. I told them earlier in the week, after the Kentucky game, we've got to stay positive and stay confident.
"In the second half, Louisville picked up the pressure and got into us a little bit more. Give Louisville credit for keeping Scooter McFadgon at bay. Also Louisville beat us on rebounding late in the game. We had 23 turnovers, but I felt overall that our guards did an okay job.
"There was one stretch in the second half that was the difference. Francisco Garcia is a good player who made big plays. We've got a young team, and if they keep improving, we'll be alright.
"Our guys are in good shape and did not get tired. I felt our one weapon tonight was C.J. Watson. Some other guys just need to step up. As far as what happened late in the game, we wouldn't have had to worry about it if we'd taken care of business earlier in the second half."
LOUISVILLE HEAD COACH RICK PITINO
"It was a hard fought victory. You win game like this on the road, and it's exciting. Tennessee played great defense, and is very physical.
"We couldn't handle their big people on the glass. We had our run with our press. We knew we had to win this game at the end. The 12-0 run was big for us during the second half.
"There are certain nights the 3-pointer will not be there. We didn't rebound well, but I am ecstatic with the win. Tennessee is an outstanding team. It was a hard-fought game overall.
"I'm not being patronizing, but Buzz is a terrific coach. The key to games like this is keeping a positive attitude when you lose. When you're young, you find a way to lose. And when you have the experience, you find a way to win. Tennessee is a healthy team, and there is greatness in their future. The loss they had to Kentucky is the most difficult kind of loss you can have.
"We had a lot of guys who didn't have a good night, but that was because of Tennessee. Francisco Garcia only had one bad shot. We got great shots down the stretch by making the extra pass. Brandon Jenkins executed well the whole night. I think Francisco Garcia is a big-time player.
"Tennessee changed their defense the right way based on the talent we
had on the floor."
