Recap |  Box Score

Tennessee Head Coach Bruce Pearl

Opening Comments ...
"When they went small, I was concerned we were too big. That's the first time that's happened all year long. Shooting is something that we have to do well to win. I think our experience is paying off in the sense that C.J. Watson has been here a few times, and you can tell the difference. You can tell the difference especially against a Mississippi State team that is real young. There's not a night off in this league. That's why the experience makes a difference. These guys have been through this before, and they've been beat down."

On the lineup change ...
"Some teams don't get better throughout the season, and it's been our focus to get better. Sometimes a lineup change can make you better. I felt like either Andre (Patterson) or JaJuan (Smith) deserved the chance to start. They probably both do."

On positives and negatives from tonight ...
"We only had seven turnovers at halftime. The big thing we were concerned about was turnovers and letting the game get away from us that way. They dominated and got a lot of offensive rebounds and that continues to be a concern."

Mississippi State Head Coach Rick Stansbury

Opening Comments ...
"Give Tennessee all the credit. I thought for the first time all year long that we got whipped. They beat us in every category that is possible to get beat in. I understand why they are so good. We did not do a very good job finding them in transition and they made shots. You cannot allow them to get transition baskets. We went small just to try to handle the ball against the pressure. At halftime, we had six turnovers. That part of it worked but we were very inefficient in half court offense when we were small."

On losing at home ...
"I understand that our team is not very good right now. We have to find a way to get better, whether it's on the road or at home. We just don't have much rhythm and we changed the rhythm again tonight by going small."

Addressing the team after the game ...
"There is only so much that you can say. There is no magical speech after that game. No one likes to lose; they are hurting like everyone else is hurting. I told them that it doesn't get any easier because we go on the road at Alabama next."

On any surprises from Tennessee defensively ...
"No, they played man and press. That is what they do 99 percent of the time. There were no surprises there."
