TENNESSEE HEAD COACH Buzz Peterson:
"I am disappointed in the outcome and the final score, but I thought we fought hard and did some good things in a lot of ways. Florida stepped up and made some big shots when it had to today. As good as Alabama was last week, Florida might be better on the boards.
"Brandon Crump came back and had a nice game; he was a little bit tentative because of his ankle, but he had a good stat sheet line. We did not make the plays we needed down the stretch. With the open date coming Wednesday, we are going to take a couple of days off, and then work on our offensive execution, and try to get things going again against Ole Miss next week. Nothing will happen for us if we hang our heads. We have to stay positive, and move on to Ole Miss.
"David Lee at the free-throw line was awfully big for Florida, going 9-for-9; he made a big difference in their stretch run. We just did not make the plays in the end, but I thought our effort was good.
"I was disappointed in the technical foul assessed against Crump. We just have to have more composure. The timing on our half-court execution was off, but now we have a week to work to try to improve it."
FLORIDA HEAD COACH BILLY DONOVAN: "I do not want to make excuses for our guys, but we have had three games in seven days. We got home at 3 a.m. Wednesday, had to go to class and did not practice. We practiced Thursday and then came here Friday.
"It was a courageous win. Tennessee was ready to play. I did my best to keep our guys energized. Matt Walsh, David Lee, and Anthony Roberson tried to lead; I was not worried about them. Our energy was up-and-down, but we continued to battle. Our freshmen gave us energy when energy was needed. I thought Corey Brewer had a good game with 9 points and 10 rebounds. Roberson, Walsh and Lee were all very good.
"I thought Tennessee played as well as they did in Gainesville, but the difference might have been the 3-point line. They hit nine of them in Gainesville and five tonight. Tennessee played hard and aggressively.
"I did not think our defense was very good in the first 12 minutes of the game. Tennessee competed well. Crump came back and played exceptionally well.
"I thought Lee did a good job positioning himself and making some nice moves inside. Tennessee doubled Lee in Gainesville, and we prepared for that, but we never saw it today. That was a smart adjustment by Buzz Peterson. We doubled Crump in Gainesville, but did not do so this time. You play somebody for the second time, and you want to give them a different wrinkle."
- Brandon Crump returned to contribute 26 minutes, scoring 16 points and seven rebounds. Crump last scored in double figures at Florida with 18 points (01/19/2005). Crump led all Tennessee scores.
- C.J. Watson again reached double figures tonight (15 points), he seventh straight game to score in double figures.
- The Vols' next game will be next Saturday, February 19, 2005, at Mississippi. This Wednesday's open date is the second open-date of this conference season for Tennessee. The Vols' other open-date this conference season was filled with a game at Louisville.
