HEAD COACH Cuonzo Martin
"I thought Alabama did a good job of protecting their home court. One thing I talked to our guys about was that a team this hungry will find a way to win this game. They are a very hungry team. They have very talented young guys. Some of them haven't played a lot but they are very talented. They will come out ready to fight. They will scratch and claw their way to a win and they did just that from start to finish and they found a way to win. They did a great job in the second half especially getting steals and turning us over with their press."
(On Alabama's pressure)
"They did a good job with their running, jumping, trapping and mixing up the zone. They did a really good job."
(On Tennessee's shooting)
"We didn't make shots. What happens when you don't make shots is you get a little hesitant, but you have to stay aggressive and shoot the ball."
(On Tennessee's offense)
"I think for us, when you don't have the shot, you have to use your dribble, get in the lane and make the extra pass. I didn't think we did a poor job of being unselfish. I thought we did that. But I thought we were hesitant on shots."
(On sitting Jarnell Stokes in the first half with two fouls)
"It's tough when you have those guys working together. I didn't want to get Jarnell's third foul in the first half because we needed him in the second half. It's just part of it. Yemi (Makanjuola) hadn't played a lot. It's no fault of his own. He hadn't played a lot so it's tough to put him in a situation like that on the road."
(On playing a grind-it-out game)
"It was. Both teams are good defensive teams. They did a great job protecting their home court. They got the steals and wanted to run. They ripped off a lot of baskets. We turned the ball over and didn't make plays. That's the result."
(On Golden and Maymon having 11 turnovers)
"If we have 11 turnovers between those two guys, it's probably going to be a tough night for us. Those two guys can handle the ball. They facilitate well for us. If they struggle making plays, it's going to be a tough night."
(On UT's half-court defense)
"I didn't think we were bad, but we weren't great. I don't think we were great on some of the dribble penetration. We broke down, especially in the first half, so we have to do a better job with that. More importantly, we did a poor job boxing out. They had 14 offensive rebounds. We said in our gameplan that their guards are pretty good rebounders. They won the battle of the long rebounds."
(On Alabama's Trevor Releford)
"He does a really good job facilitating for them. He's really crafty with the ball. He gets to the rim. He's a really good free throw shooter and he knows how to make plays."
(On Tennessee's game on Wednesday vs. Ole Miss)
"We have to obviously do everything in our power to protect our home court and play the way we're capable of playing."
(On what he'll talk to his team about)
"I think once again taking care of the basketball, being able to sustain and handle pressure, getting the ball across the court and making plays. Give Alabama a lot of credit for getting steals and playing the way they played. When you're missing shots on the perimeter, you have a tendency to be a little hesitant. I think that was the result of a lot of the mistakes you saw. You still have to be aggressive. You still have to be assertive. If shots aren't falling, they aren't falling. We have to do a better job in those situations of getting the ball inside and then coming out."
(On Alabama's 15 steals)
"Too many. You have to take care of the basketball. It shouldn't happen, not with the experience we have and the time we put into taking care of the basketball."
JUNIOR FORWARD Jeronne Maymon
(On Tennessee's loss to Alabama)
"We just came out stagnant. Their press was really giving us a lot of problems in the full-court. Me and Trae (Golden) had a hard time holding onto the ball today."
"We knew they were going to come hungry and ready to play. Coach said before the game that the hungriest team hunts best. They had a good game today."
(On Tennessee's offensive struggles)
"We really struggled from the outside. A lot of our guards couldn't hit shots. They had the two big men in the post. We tried to drive the ball strong, but our shots weren't falling today."
(On Jarnell Stokes' early foul trouble)
"Stokes going out so early in the first-half left me really the only one in there to fend for the rebounds and post play. That really gave us a little deficit."
(On Tennessee's home game Wednesday vs. Ole Miss)
"It's definitely a must-win game for us. We have to get back in the gym, get refocused and come ready for Ole Miss."
