TENNESSEE HEAD COACH Buzz Peterson
"I'm proud of the way we played down the stretch.
"Dane Bradshaw made some big plays, and got the ball for us. Dane's hustle plays gave us energy. When we were down by six points, Bradshaw and Major Wingate, two freshmen, came along and did some good things for us.
"Another thing that helped us was the fans' support. Our players felt pretty good to know that the crowd was behind them. We had some adversity, but managed to turn it around at the end.
"Auburn really beat us on the boards. Fortunately, we made our shots down the stretch. Yesterday afternoon, for a little more than an hour, our team had an open chat, players and coaches. We talked about what we needed to do to help us out in these final games. We need to figure out how to get a road win Wednesday at Nashville.
"We're looking for ideas. It will be senior night, and Vanderbilt will be fired up. But we are going to be eager to get the win also. It is my understanding that Marco Killingsworth threw a punch, and will sit out Auburn's next game.
"Brandon Crump was designated as a participant, and he had to get out of the game. We believe he will be eligible to play Wednesday night at Vanderbilt. Coach (John) Guthrie will be reviewing the situation, and he must make the final decision. But we believe Brandon will be able to play.
"Major Wingate played some good quality minutes, he did an excellent job for us in there with his intensity. We've just got to get him more consistent. Scooter's 3-pointer was good, it gave us a lift. McFadgon will not lead verbally, but will lead by his actions.
AUBURN HEAD COACH CLIFF ELLIS
"Scooter McFadgon had a big-time shot, like big-time players do. He had big game with 23 points. Tennessee plays as well at home as anybody and we battled them.
"I thought we battled hard in a hard-fought game. I liked the way we're battling, but I hate the result. We've played everybody in the league now, and there's not a team we can't play with in the SEC Tournament.
"We must have missed 15 shots inside in the first half. We almost had a steal, and McFadgon makes the big shot. This team has been through so much, I'm proud of them.
"With Marco Killingsworth, that probably started before the game. I'll make my comments to the proper authorities. We won't tolerate that.
"I thought Brandon Robinson stepped it up; he was under the weather, and I didn't know how much he would play. He had a whale of a game. Nineteen points and 12 rebounds say a lot. When he has that kind of a game, everybody steps up. I'm proud of his game.
"It will come for us down the line. I love the heart of our team. I thought
McFadgon got to the line too much tonight. We have to move on, and play one
of the best two teams in the league at Mississippi State. We'll go there
and fight and scrap."
