Tennessee Head Coach Bruce Pearl: "In our last regular-season game, we can still say nothing will surprise us about this team. I appreciate our team battling back, but we just could not finish it. It has been a long week - at Florida and at South Carolina, and then back here. Teams with less substance and character do not go there and win. We tried not to go too hard these last few days in practice, but our boys never got out of bed.
"Give credit to Alabama; we could not pick up the tempo, which would have given us an advantage. It is not about effort.
"At the end, they were playing a zone, and there was about a five-second difference in the clocks. Having Tyler Smith at the rim is a pretty good look. If Smith would have gotten that last rebound, it would have been our ball.
"Let's see what happens now. We put the emphasis on this game how it related to the overall season. It is not a happy locker room right now. We wanted the outright SEC East title.
"Going into Tampa, it looks like LSU, followed closely by South Carolina and Tennessee. It is an open tournament with a balanced field. Nobody is so strong that the outcome will be a foregone conclusion."
Alabama Interim Head Coach Philip Pearson: "Anthony Brock missed his flight from Little Rock, Ark., yesterday and had to drive all night to get here. The first time I saw him was at 8:30 this morning because he had to attend his grandmother's funeral. It has been a tough 10 days for him. To make a shot like that at the end of the game is just great. The reason I put him in with four seconds left was hopefully to get Alonzo Gee or him on the run. Four seconds is enough time to get yourself in position. Brock made a tough shot; it was about a 22-footer. It sort of looked online; I am just happy it went in the basket. It seems like we have been in a lot of these.
"We just hunkered down in our zone. We thought the best way to win this game was zone. We mixed it up a little bit, but basically stayed in a 2-3 zone. It makes it hard to block out, but we got a couple of contends and a couple of rebounds when it counted."
