TENNESSEE HEAD COACH Buzz Peterson:
"Let me first say about Wofford that Mike Young is doing a fine job with this ballclub. This is the second year in a row they have played us tough.
"Howard Wilkerson has improved greatly. At the three-fourths mark of the game, they were being more physical than we were on the boards. Wofford went on a 19-2 run at one point. It is my job to get our focus right so that does not happen.
"Chris Lofton has the right mentality, and I think maybe he won the game for us down the stretch. He did an awfully good job to help us win.
"Our practice Saturday was bad, and Sunday it was bad again. I met with the captains today, and I told them I did not like what was happening, and that we needed to be ready to play a good Wofford team tonight.
"I decided not to play Dane Bradshaw because he has a nasty toe injury, and he has not been able to practice the last two days. But he will play Sunday against UT-Chattanooga. I am glad we have a week to prepare for our next game. Our guys are a little bit tired, and are a little sick, have the sniffles and stuff like that. We need to get well, and to get our legs back under us.
"We decided to play one-on-one with Wilkerson because we were not going to give Sam Daniels any opportunities to sink 3-pointers against us. C.J. Watson did not have his best game by any means. He is a little bit worn-down, and he seemed to get tired down the stretch; but he finished nicely."
WOFFORD HEAD COACH MIKE YOUNG:
"Howard Wilkerson has gotten big and strong, and has great balance. That makes him difficult to play, and us hard to guard. Our guys are doing a great job getting him the ball. I can make the case that Greg Taylor has been our MVP this season. He is just averaging two points per game, but he has toughness on defense. Not just steals, but the leadership he gives. He always takes the tough assignment.
"This is a really good Tennessee team. We went toe-to-toe with them after the first eight minutes. We got some bodies on them, and some rebounds. Relying on our motion offense, we got some good looks and almost got it. I think we are here to stay, and we played hard. I could not be more pleased. We made some mistakes and had some costly turnovers.
"It is just the end of November, but I am excited about this team.
"We could not have drawn up a better time to play Tennessee -- after their trip to Maui. They are a good team who will have a good season, and they have one of the best coaches in the land. There was a time in the game we had Tennessee on their heels, offensively. It is one of those things you talk about as a coach, where defense ignites offense. Tennessee probably was not as active on our glass and missed some shots.
"I thought Chris Lofton made the big shot for them when we were up six. It was gutsy for him, being just a freshman, to take that shot. I could see it caroming off the rim, and us having something going. We had it contested and we did everything we could."
