McRAE LEADS THE OFFENSE AGAIN
Jordan McRae has led the team in scoring all five games this season. He finished the night with a team-leading 22 points. He was 6 of 16 from the field and made 9 of 12 free throws.
Three Vols ended the night in double digits. Josh Richardson equalled his season best in scoring with 13 points. Jarnell Stokes had 13 points to go along with his 14 rebounds.
STOKES WITH THE DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Jarnell Stokes finished with 13 points and 14 rebounds to record the 20th double-double of his career, second of the season. His other double-double came Nov. 16 against USC Upstate (17 points, 18 rebounds)
Tennessee outrebounded Xavier 46-27.
Tennessee finished with 26 offensive rebounds. The Vols' total was the most since they grabbed 28 vs. the College of Charleston on Dec. 31, 2010.
UT turned those 26 offensive rebounds into 25 second chance points. UTEP had 12 second chance points off six offensive rebounds.
Stokes recorded 14 rebounds to lead Tennessee. It is the 24th time in his career he has had at least 10 rebounds in a game and the second time this season.
Tennessee will play Xavier for a second time this season Friday at 1 p.m. Eastern in the consolation bracket of the Battle 4 Atlantis. The Vols lost at Xavier 67-63 in the season opener Nov. 12
Xavier lost to No. 23 Iowa 77-74 in overtime in its first-round game Thursday evening.
