POSTGAME NOTES

THE SERIES

  • Virginia holds an 8-5 all-time lead in the series
  • Tennessee is 3-0 against Virginia in games played in Knoxville
  • The last time the teams played, Virginia took a 46-38 win over the Vols on Dec. 5, 2012, in Charlottesville, Va.

FOR STARTERS

  • Tonight's starters for Tennessee were junior Josh Richardson, senior Antonio Barton, junior Jarnell Stokes, senior Jeronne Maymon and senior Jordan McRae.
  • Senior forward Jeronne Maymon made UT's first field goal of the game with a layup 15 seconds in.
  • Virginia's Justin Anderson scored the Cavaliers' first points with a jumper at the 18:05 mark.
  • Senior guard Jordan McRae made UT's first 3-pointer at the 14:42 mark to push the Vols' lead 13-4.
  • Freshman guard/forward A.J. Davis was the first Tennessee player subbed in. He entered at the 14:39 mark of the first half.
  • 79 of Tennessee's first 82 points were by starters. Robert Hubbs III had the bench's three points in that stretch.

SECOND-BIGGEST LOSS FOR UVA'S BENNETT

  • Monday's 35-point loss for Virginia also marked the second-largest loss margin for the Cavs under head coach Tony Bennett. Virginia lost to Washington by 43 points on Nov. 22, 2010.

TURNOVERS

  • Tennessee did not commit a turnover until there was 6:44 remaining in the first half.
  • The Vols committed just six turnovers in the game.
  • Entering Monday's game, only six teams in Division I averaged fewer turnovers per game than Tennessee (9.7 tpg).

FIRST-HALF FRENZY

  • Josh Richardson continued his hot streak, going 6-for-6 with three 3-pointers to start the night. To that point, he had made 14 of his last 19 shots, going back to last week's win over Morehead State.
  • Tennessee's 48 points are its most since scoring 50 points against Kentucky on Feb. 16, 2013.
  • Tennessee's 48 first-half points are the most allowed by Virginia since giving up to 55 to Washington on Nov. 22, 2010. It is the most points the Cavaliers have allowed in a first half in 118 games.
  • The Cavaliers previous season-high of first-half points allowed was 37 to Wisconsin-Green Bay on Dec. 7. The most points Virginia had allowed in 2012-13 was 40 to UNC.
  • Tennessee's 48 first-half points were as much or more than five Virginia opponents scored in the entire game (JMU - 41, Navy - 42, Hampton - 40, Wisconsin - 48, Northern Iowa - 43).
  • The Vols shot 57.7 percent from the floor in the first half (15-of-26) and a whopping 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from 3-point range.
  • The UT defense held the Cavs to just 32.1 percent shooting before halftime.
  • Tennessee held Virginia to just 26 points at the half, marking the fifth time this year that the Vols had held an opponent to under 30 points in the first half.

NOTHING BUT NET FROM HALF COURT

  • With time expiring at the end of the first half, senior guard Antonio Barton heaved a shot from half court and swished home a 3-pointer.

ALL-AROUND GAME

  • Entering Monday's game, UT was holding opponents to 37 percent shooting from the floor. The Vols continued to play lockdown D, limiting Virginia to 32.7 percent shooting for the night.
  • Tennessee's offense was equally impressive. UT shot 50 percent from the floor, including a 61.1 percent effort from 3-point range and an 88 percent mark from the stripe.

THREE VOLS HIT 20-POINT MARK

  • Jordan McRae finished with 21 points, marking the 19th 20-point game of his career and his seventh this season.
  • Jarnell Stokes finished with 20 points to record the sixth 20-point performance of his career and his third this season.
  • Josh Richardson tied his career high with 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting.

RICHARDSON COMING UP BIG

  • Josh Richardson has enjoyed two impressive performances in his last two games. He scored a then- season-high 19 on 8-of-13 shooting against Morehead State on Dec. 23. Tonight Richardson matched his career high with 20 points.

WIRE-TO-WIRE

• Never trailing in the contest, the Vols recorded their eighth wire-to-wire under Cuonzo Martin.
• It is the third time this season that UT has recorded a wire-to-wire win. The team had back-to-back wire-to-wire wins against The Citadel (Nov. 18) and Tennessee State (Nov. 22) -- the first time in Martin's career that he has achieved the feat.

MEN & WOMEN DOMINATING

  • The Vols and Lady Vols had defeated their most recent opponents by a combined 103 wins. The Lady Vols crushed Lipscomb by 68 on Sunday. The Vols blew past Virginia by 35 points on Monday.
  • Tennessee opens SEC play on the road at LSU on Jan. 7. The game will be televised on ESPN at 7 p.m. ET.
