After averaging 20.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in wins over Virginia and Tusculum College, Tennessee senior Jordan McRae has been named the SEC Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

The award marks the second SEC weekly honor of the season for McRae, as he previously garnered the award Nov. 25. It's also the second such honor of his career.

The Midway, Ga., native shot the ball incredibly well last week, but he also had what head coach Cuonzo Martin called the best defensive game of his career in Tennessee's convincing home win over Virginia. The Cavs came into last week's clash ranked in the top six nationally in six defensive categories and boasting the country's second-best scoring defense, but McRae scored seemingly at-will all night long. He make 3-of-4 tries from 3-point range and was also a perfect 6-for-6 at the free-throw line.

Defensively, McRae was called upon to guard UVA's Wooden Award and Naismith Trophy candidate Joe Harris. McRae limited the Cavs' top scorer to just seven points on 2-of-9 shooting.

To cap McRae's stellar performance against Virginia, he tied his career-high with five assists while committing zero turnovers.

He followed up his career night with a team-best 19 points in UT's win over Tusculum Saturday. McRae last week also logged his 150th career assist, making him the 22nd Vol ever to post both 1,000 points and 150 assists.

McRae - who also appears on both the John R. Wooden Award and Naismith Trophy watch lists - currently ranks fourth in the SEC in scoring (18.9 ppg), sixth in free-throw percentage (.785) and ninth in both 3-point shooting percentage (.347) and 3-pointers made per game (2.0).

Monday's honor marks the ninth SEC weekly award received by a Vol during Martin's tenure as UT's head coach.
