When Feb. 1 rolled around, those opponents had combined to boast a 139-49 (.739) record.

  • UT's strength of schedule is rated first nationally by TheHoopsReport.com and RPIratings.com.

The Georgia Series

This is the 140th in the all-time series, with Tennessee holding an 88-51 advantage ... The Vols have a nine-game win streak in the series and have won 11 of the last 12 meetings ... UT erased a 10-point second-half deficit to post an 86-77 win in Athens last month ... Tennessee is 32-33 all-time when the series is played in Athens ... Tennessee holds a 52-13 series lead when playing in Knoxville ... The last nine games in Athens have been decided by a total of 51 points (5.67-point margin) with one game going into overtime and another going into double overtime ... Noting Georgia

Georgia (9-13, 0-7 SEC) fell at home to LSU on Wednesday and is riding a nine-game losing streak ... Last week Georgia ranked 10th nationally in 3-point field-goal percentage defense ... In the Bulldogs' two games last week, opponents combined to shoot 46 percent from beyond the stripe, and UGA now ranks 38th nationally ... Still rounding into shape after a high-ankle sprain in October, freshman Trey Thompkins has nonetheless managed to emerge as the Bulldogs' leading offensive threat and their top rebounder (13.0 ppg, 6.7 rpg) ... Were he to maintain his team-high pace, Thompkins would be the first UGA freshman to lead the Bulldogs in those two categories since Jumaine Jones in 1998 ... Thompkins also leads the Bulldogs in blocked shots (21) ... After UGA dismissed head coach Dennis Felton last Thursday, assistant Pete Herrmann was named interim coach ... UGA's Jan. 31 Alabama game marked the first time in nearly 17 years that Herrmann had roamed a sideline from the lead chair ... He had served as head coach at the U.S. Naval Academy from the 1987-1992 seasons ... In his first season at Annapolis, the David Robinson-led Midshipmen went 26-6 and played in the NCAA Tournament ... Georgia was picked by the SEC head coaches to finish sixth in the Eastern Division this season.

Last Clash With Georgia

Tennessee improved to 4-0 in SEC openers under head coach Bruce Pearl by overcoming a 10-point second-half deficit Jan. 10 to defeat Georgia 86-77 in Athens, Ga. ... For the first time all season, the UT bench was outscored by the opponents' bench (29-11), but all five Volunteers starters scored in double figures ... Tyler Smith led the way with a UT-career-high-tying 24 points and a team-high 11 rebounds and six assists ... Point guard Bobby Maze added a season-high 16 points ... Tennessee led 36-32 at the half, but a second-quarter run by the Bulldogs gave UGA a 54-44 lead with 12:26 to play ... Maze scored 11 points in the second half to help the Vols regain the lead at 4:22 remaining ... After Georgia took a one-point lead with just over three minutes on the clock, UT reeled off 13 straight points to put the game away ... Terrance Woodbury and Trey Thompkins led the Bulldogs with 18 and 14 points, respectively.

Volunteers Look to Continue Streak of Success vs. UGA Under Pearl

During the Bruce Pearl era, Tennessee has enjoyed more success against Georgia than against any other team (7-0) ... Under Pearl, the Vols average 81.4 ppg vs. the Bulldogs while allowing only 72.4 ppg ... UT's average margin of victory against Georgia in the Pearl era is 9.0 ppg, and that was the winning maring last month in Athens (86-77) ... UT has won its last nine games against UGA dating to January 2005.

Chism's Development Shining Through

The development displayed by Wayne Chism from his freshman campaign to his sophomore season has only continued to flourish this year ... Just since last season, the junior's scoring and rebounding stats are both up more than 3.0 per game.

% Increase
Fr. So. Jr. (Career)

Rebounds Per Game 5.2 5.8 8.6 65.4

"Wheezy" Nearing Statistical Milestones

With 954 career points and 575 career rebounds, junior Wayne Chism is close to becoming the 16th player in school history to log 1,000 points and 600 boards ... He is on track to become the 41st member of UT's 1,000-point club ... Chism also is on pace to attempt a season-high 136 free throws during the regular-season ... His current season-high for free-throw attempts is 104 during his freshman campaign ... He's already attempted 100 through just 22 games this year.

Defensive Turnaround

The Vols' defense has improved in recent weeks ... After allowing an average of 76.3 ppg through Jan. 17, UT has allowed an average of 68.2 ppg in its last six contests ... On Jan. 24, UT held Memphis to its lowest scoring output of the season (54) ...
