Tennessee basketball coach Rick Barnes recently visited with Tennessee's 2017 SEC Legend, Ron Slay, who was the 2003 SEC Player of the Year. After an All-American career with the Vols, Slay spent more than a decade playing professional basketball overseas before returning to Rocky Top to complete his degree requirements.
At this week's SEC Tournament in Slay's hometown of Nashville, he will be honored as Tennessee's 2017 SEC Legend. He will be introduced at halftime of the Vols' game against Georgia, which tips off at 1 p.m. ET/noon CT.
An abbreviated version of this interview aired last month on the Rick Barnes TV Show, but in this full-length version, Barnes and Slay cover a number of topics, including Slay's thoughts on returning to college and the importance of education, his advice to injured Vols freshman John Fulkerson (Slay also suffered a season-ending injury during his career at UT) and a humorous "incident" in Hawaii involving a pizza.
