KNOXVILLE -- Tennessee's road in the 2011 NCAA Tournament will start nearby.
The Vols, seeded ninth in the West Regional, will face No. 8 seed Michigan on Friday in Charlotte, N.C., at 12:40 p.m. ET on truTV. The winner of Friday's game will face either No. 1 seed Duke or No. 16 seed Hampton on Sunday.
Tennessee earned its sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament bid with a 19-14 overall record, including an 8-8 finish in the SEC.
The Vols are 4-1 in opening games of the NCAA Tournament under head coach Bruce Pearl. With the expansion of the tournament to 68 teams this season, the first round will take place Tuesday and Wednesday in Dayton, Ohio.
All games on Thursday and Friday are considered second-round games. The Vols are 5-5 all-time in second round games, and 1-2 all-time playing as a No. 9 seed.
Tennessee has twice been seeded ninth in the tournament, losing in the first round to Oklahoma State in 2009, and advancing to the second round in 1982 before losing to top-seeded Virginia.
The Vols are 0-5 all-time against No. 1 seeds in the tournament.
