KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Concord Christian School has announced the hiring of Rob Murphy as the head high school boys basketball coach.
"I'm really excited and grateful for this opportunity Concord Christian has given me," Murphy said. "I look forward to taking this program to a new level".
Murphy, a former walk-on for the Tennessee men's basketball program, finished up his senior season this past year under head coach Cuonzo Martin.
"I learned a great deal from my time at Tennessee. I will be able to take a great deal of knowledge from my experiences under Coach Martin. I just look forward to getting in the gym and helping these kids develop".
Murphy came to the University of Tennessee after playing two seasons at Lipscomb University, where he was a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference All-American Team. Murphy will graduate in May with a degree in Business Logistics.
Murphy also is the founder of the AAU team MaxOut Basketball, which is in its fourth season. Murphy looks to bring the experiences gained from his playing days at Tennessee and his coaching at MaxOut to propel Concord Christian to new heights.
"We hope to play an up-tempo style that traps and presses a lot," Murphy said. "Our team is going to have to be in great shape because I want to attack and wear other teams down".
Concord Christian's Athletic Director Karen Nicholson spoke highly of Murphy and his abilities saying, "This hire shows the school's commitment to our athletic program and is an integral part to growing our high school".
