Former Tennessee basketball player Rob Murphy (2011-13), who was named head boys basketball coach at Knoxville's Concord Christian School in April, has been promoted to athletics director, the school announced Wednesday.
Murphy will begin his athletic director role on June 24.
"I could not be more excited about Rob Murphy as the new athletic director," Senior Pastor at First Baptist Concord Dr. John Avant said. "He brings with him incredible local support, great leadership, impeccable character and the charisma we need to build a great athletic program."
Murphy will continue in his coaching role while also overseeing the strategic development of the CCS middle and high school athletic programs.
"Athletics are a crucial part of every young person's growth," Murphy said. "And we will strive every day to benefit our students in every way possible."
A native of Brentwood, Tenn., Murphy played two years for the Volunteers after transferring from Lipscomb and sitting out the 2010-11 season. He graduated from UT last month, earning his degree in Logistics.
During his collegiate career, he was a four-time conference academic honor roll performer.
