Three months after putting the finishing touches on his Tennessee basketball career, Cameron Tatum learned late last week that he had earned a coveted spot on the Memphis Grizzlies' 2012 NBA Summer League Team.

Tatum - who ranks second on UT's all-time games-played list (138) and 10th in 3-pointers made (155) - worked out twice for the Grizzlies in advance of last Thursday's NBA Draft. Last Monday, Tatum performed particularly well during a four-man workout with West Virginia's Kevin Jones, Syracuse's Kris Joseph and Washington's Tony Wroten.

The Lithonia, Ga., native's performance, particularly his ability to shoot from the perimeter, caught the eye of the Grizzlies' director of scouting, Tony Barone Jr., who announced Friday that Tatum had made the organization's summer league roster.

"I didn't really know what to expect in the workouts," Tatum told the Knoxville News Sentinel. "(Tennessee head coach Cuonzo Martin) said to just go out there and play my type of game. I did that. I shot the ball well with a lot of confidence. When they called me back I performed well because I went back with the same attitude."

This year's NBA Summer League in Las Vegas will feature a record 24 teams competing in a 60-game schedule July 13-22 at the Thomas & Mack Center and the COX Pavilion on the UNLV campus.

Tatum will play his first of five games July 14, when Memphis faces the New York Knicks.
