MIAMI (Jan. 1, 1968) - A night football game, this time at Miami's Orange Bowl, became the Vols' undoing for the second time in the 1967 season.The Vols closed the 1967 season the way they opened it, with a loss under the lights. While UCLA was the culprit in the opener, Oklahoma edged the Vols in the season finale. The Vols fell behind 19-0 in the first half and saw their first series of the second half stopped at the Oklahoma 14. But, on the ensuing series, Jimmy Glover returned a pass interception 36 yards for a touchdown and the Vols were back in the game. With 5:07 left in the third quarter, Charley Fulton scored and it was 19-14 as the fourth quarter began. The Vols closed to 19-17, before giving up an interception that the Sooners returned for a touchdown. Warren brought the Vols back once again, capping a 77-yard drive with a 1-yard sneak and it was 26-24. The
Vols took possession at the Oklahoma 43 when Steve Owens was stopped
short on fourth-and-1 and worked the ball to the 27 with time running
out. But Kremser's field goal faded wide right and Oklahoma had the
game.
