George
Cafego Renowned for his blocking and running skills, George "Bad News" Cafego also played safety and quarterback. On special teams, he returned kicks and punts while also handling the punting duties. In his career, Cafego rushed for 1,589 yards and threw for 550 yards. The Vols got their
first major bowl win, a 17-0 victory over Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl,
with Cafego in the backfield. The 1938 team finished 11-0 and Cafego was
SEC Player of the Year.
